For the right use case, it's perfect.
The age of Covid has changed nearly everything about my job. Instead of going to a physical office building every day, I stroll down the hallway to my home office, motor up the standing desk, and get to work. This has dramatically changed the dynamic of what I carry around with me in my work backpack. Instead of carrying everything I "think" I might need for a day away from home, (ie: company laptop, personal tablet, power supplies, cables, adapters, other personal items, etc.), now I carry the essentials. Plus, as laptop sizes have slimmed down, (from a bulky, old HP 14" down to a svelte, 12" Surface Pro 7 and a personal iPad Pro 10.5), I need less bag to protect them. Then there's this. In the old days I was flying to and from Europe and fell into the habit of keeping most of my portable office on my back all the time. I'm talking about things like Bose headphones, spare batteries, and the like. Even though it added a few pounds to the heft of my bag, it also meant I never had to scrounge around at the last minute to pack for a long trip. As my previous daily bag, I have a Swiss Gear TSA-friendly pack that I purchased from Sam's Club. As far as I'm concerned, it remains the best value on the market. It's not perfect, but at $39.95 it's hard to beat. With the exception of the odd, internal, hard-shell sunglass case that always rips free at the seams, the Swiss Gear is a beast. I've traveled the world with it and it just... keeps... going. Sure, the teardrop design falls over at your feet at the airport, but it's large enough and flexible enough for me to carry all my electronics, a few flat file folders, and even an emergency change of clothes and shoes. But in the post-Covid, work-from-home world with smaller electronics and less travel, the Swiss Gear is overkill for most of my daily needs. Most days it just sits on the shelf collecting dust. So I went hunting. After several hours of hunting, I found this Nicgid (what's with these odd, word salad names, anyway?) sling/messenger bag and it seemed perfect for my needs. Okay, nearly perfect. It only lacks three things that would make it truly perfect, but I'll get to them in a minute. Those three things are so relatively minor that for most people they'll never notice the difference. First, let's talk about the great features... * It's a single-strap convertible, meaning you can carry it left or right shoulder, or reclip like a messenger bag, or carry by the handle like a briefcase. (Also a drawback, but we'll get there in a minute...) * The various compartments are laid out nearly perfectly for the way I work, with an externally accessible zippered compartment for my badges, boarding passes, and passport. * The external compartment is on a flap with adjustable clips that flips back quickly to expose an open pouch and a couple of pen slots, making it secure (enough) to protect certain loose items (like the aforementioned pens, Covid mask, tissues, a snack, etc.). * Underneath that flap are also two decently sized zippered compartments, one larger than the other. You can stuff all kinds of things into these slots, like cables, power adapters, earbud containers, etc. * The main compartment, though, is fairly large given the fact that this is a single-shoulder sling. It comfortably fit *both* a Suface Pro 6 *and* an iPad Pro 12.9 with the Magic Keyboard. There was room left over for a third 13.3" device if I really wanted to go crazy. * There are external water bottle pockets on either side that are large enough and stretchy enough to carry most 16 to 20oz bottles. (I carry a ham radio walkie talkie in one of the pockets, so ymmv...) After all that positive, there are a few caveats. None of these are deal-breakers, but you should still keep them in mind before you buy. * There are more D-rings than straps to attach to them. Not sure what the D-ring on the shoulder strap is used for. * Speaking of shoulder straps, this is a *single strap* bag, so don't buy it if you think there is even the most remote possibility that you will want to throw it over both shoulders. * It is not the best padded bag I have ever used. If you tend to throw your bag around and trust that it will protect all your electronics, think again. It's padded, just not heavily padded. If you drop it to the ground with a laptop or tablet in it your device will likely sustain some damage. Bonus caveat... * The clip that attaches the strap to the D-rings is not particularly sturdy. It is plastic with a metal spring clip. It works. It will "probably" hold up over time, but it is not a heavy-duty plastic clip like on my Swiss Gear backpack. Be careful in how you toss it around and you should be fine. Other than that, I'm already enjoying it and using it regularly as a cross chest bag when I ride my ebike for a visit to the local coffee shop. Recommended.

Nice looking bag, lots of storage, and it is comfortable too.
I had so much trouble finding a sling bag that is stylish and functional to fit my MacBook Air 15", and I found it with the NICGID. The description was a little confusing with the measurements and all, but yes a MacBook Air 15" laptop fits in it perfectly fine. I have more compartments and storage space than what I expected and know what to put in it, and that is a good problem to have. The bag is light yet sturdy, and my favorite part is the buckles on the sling and cover pouch that actually hold. Yes, they actually hold the position they are set in and do not slide around. I love the color selection, the finish of the stitching is fantastic, and I am glad I found and ordered this bag.

Great Bag for Every Day Use
I have had a bit of a bag obsession for a while, trying to find a perfect bag to fit what I need. I finally saw this bag and settled on it, hoping it would meet my needs and my expectations. Overall, I was very pleased when it arrived. The materials are really good and look as if it will last for a while. I added a Maxpedition pouch on one side with speed clips. This bag isn't exactly made to attach molle gear to but the one pouch was doable. The bag also has a compartment on the back of the bag which could be used as a conceal carry pouch for a small handgun. My Speingfield XDS fits without an issue. The bag also has a usb port on one side. The bag comes with a usb male, connects to a battery, to usb female connector, which slots in so you can connect a usb from outside the bag and get power. The usb cable is not the best and could not handle transferring enough juice to charge my Samsung Note 9 while I was using it. The bag can hold quite a bit of stuff, with room for more. For the time being, it carrie's what is pictured and still has room left over for more. I have also tossed in an Asus tablet with keyboard attachment in the bag and still could have put more in it. One down side is that the bag has clips to go on either side of the bag, giving you the option to carry over either shoulder. However, with the position of the pouch on the strap, it lends itself to be more comfortable wearing it on your left shoulder with the strap crossing over your chest to the right side. The shoulder strap only has a single clip to attach the strap at the bottom. If you wanted to take the bag off at the clip, instead of over your shoulders, it is almost impossible to do with it on your back. If it had a buckle, that would make it so much easier. Overall, I really like this bag and would definitely recommend it if you are looking for a mid size bag to carry.

Honest blue collar review of a good bag
I bought the 808 in coffee 6 years ago and have taken it to work every week for nearly the entire time. It has held at least 15lbs almost every day between chargers, laptops, batteries, water bottle, EDC and CCW, etc and has been tossed into trucks, work vans, tool carts, office and warehouse floors, dirt and gravel, etc and has held up. 1 zipper has failed and another is geting worn out. 6 years of regular use and it has some stains, nicks in the fabric, a couple stitches that have worn, and the bottom is getting worn out. The organization was well thought out and I would only change a couple of things for personal taste and usage, like: * Making the key clip easier to access with 1 hand * Padding the base of the laptop pocket and raising the bottom to avoid contact with the ground * Making the waterbottle pouch easier to receive the bottle for one handed use * A retention strap to keep the bottle from slipping out * Some sort of abrasion resistance on the bottom of the bag. All in all, this bag far surpassed my expectations when I bought it and has impressed me enough to buy it again for hopefully another 6 years.

Love this bag! The only really comfortable one I've tried!
Love this bag! The only really comfortable one I've tried, especially when loaded with relatively heavy stuff. The main pocket it simple and roomy; the variety of other pockets is very useful. Quality? Interesting question. The materials are very strong and sturdy, and I have no doubts about toughness and longevity after two years of heavy use. One zipper only works from one direction (it's the type with two sliders; one slider works fine and is very sturdy, so I just keep the other one parked at one extreme). There is the fuzzy side of velcro to keep the flap down, but no matching "hook" patches. But it has clips that I use anyway. So... some imperfections. But other than those, it's a sturdy beast! And well-thought out. I love that the flap does NOT cover the main pocket... you can unzip and slide a laptop/tablet in the main pocket without having to open the flap, which is great for those times when you have the smaller pockets crammed with accessories and cables, or when you have a jacket or something rolled up under the flap.

Built like a tank
I purchased this backpack as a carry on for a European trip in the fall of '23. It was big enough for my 14" HP computer, and everything that I needed to carry around both on the plane and while touring Europe. Since that trip I have used it as my daily "carry" - it goes everywhere with me with a 14" laptop, Wacom drawing tablet and a compliment of hard drives and cables. It still looks brand new. I just took a good look at it - the bottom isn't even scuffed up. It is build like a tank with thick material and solid stiching. I would buy this again without hesitation - one of the most usefull backpacks I have owned - not too big but big enough for what i need. Products simply aren't built this well anymore. EDIT: April 2026: After beating this bag up for the last 3 years - I carry it every day stuffed full of computer/computer gear and books, it is starting to fail. Where the strap attached to the bottom of the bag is starting to rip out, other than that it has held up surprisingly well. Once the strap does separate, I will look for another bag (maybe even the same one) from the same manufacturer - they build a tough product that lasts much longer than anticipated.

Cheapish functional single strap backpack
The zippers arent very good - the middle pocket zipper already jammed up and I can tell it probably wont hold up very well in the future - i'm a zipper industry veteran btw - over 30 years in the zipper manufacturing industry - I retired from the zipper factory years ago - not much has changed since zippers still pretty much function the same way as when we used to operate the zipper making machines - Ive since retired a proud union zipper handle/clasp attaching machine operator - so yeah trust me I know a thing or two about zippers and especially the little part that attaches the handle apparatus to the body of the zipper mechanism itself (don't think that was the problem here anyway) - but when I say it may or may not hold up very well in an undetermined amount of time believe me - anyway back to my blog post - the zipper jammed once but hasn't happened since. The material is similar (pretty much the same?) as the typical Jansport backpacks all you young folks are crazy about these days - oh boy that brings me back to when I had to walk to and from school each day - back in those days we had all of our classes inside an old abandoned super market - was just me and like 3 other lads - but that ol jansport held up nicely - kids today have it to easy - oh and the pocket storage is pretty nice. I say its pretty nice for whatever I paid for it - I don't usually bother with trivial things like prices and math and what not - there are many more qualified people to concern themselves with that - but if it concerns a zipper or more specifically - the little handle that attaches to the zipper apparatus - well ill have plenty to say about that, you bet your last rubber nickle we will be debatin' till the horses come home to roost.

NICGID Sling Bag – Compact, Durable, and Perfect for Daily Carry
This has been my go-to EDC bag for months. It’s not meant for laptops, but for everyday essentials like a charger, phone, wallet, keys, and meds — it’s perfect. The sling design is comfortable, and the zippers and stitching have held up well with daily use. Pros: Ideal size for EDC — not bulky Durable fabric and smooth zippers Comfortable crossbody wear Multiple compartments for organization Great build quality for the price Cons: Too small for laptops or tablets larger than 10" No structured padding — just soft fabric walls Verdict: This is my everyday sidekick. Perfect for light carry, built to last, and doesn’t scream “tech bag.” Great value if you want a compact EDC sling. The materials and design rival my timbuk2 which was 160$ I now grab this more than the bag that was 7x the price. Very premium feel, I was NOT expecting that.

Study, functional and dressy
This is a great sling bag and a great upgrade. My first sling bag was, and is still great (https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B0754L7S59?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title). I received many good comments. But I have outgrown it for my daily requirements. This new NICGID Sling Bag fits my needs. More room, more functional sections and pockets. I can now separate my phone and 11in tablet from the main storage area where I also store my lunch including a 1L SodaStream bottle and still have room for more (assuming my lunch isn't to big ). There is also a section in the main storage area without a zipper where I can drop my daily package of supplements and my meds. Without a zipper makes access to this section fast while still being secure. The bag itself is light, sturdy and stitched well with strong zippers. The design is sharp and functional. I purposely chose the Blue - Nylon bag Which looks more dressy and does not attract attention like my previous bag. I am very happy with this purchase.
