It works wonderfully well for yoga; the surface is very non-slip which is great for stability but not abrasive to my skin. The 8mm thickness is fantastic since I have had double hip joint and double knee joint replacements and the extra padding is definitely better on my joints than my thinner mat. I really enjoyed this mat at first. I actually kind of liked the tree fibers and the thickness really helped my sensitive knees. However, recently I've been developing my practice a lot more and notice the friction between my feet and the tree fibers were cutting up my toes. I thought it would be fine if I just flipped the mat over and used the sticky side, but then the mat slides along the floor just a little bit every time you hop in or out of a posture. So thats a little scary when your attempting certain inversions your not quite comfortable with yet.
