Seeing as how zombies can only bite with the strength of a human (just constantly and they never get tired) yes these would work perfectly for that. The humans with knives on the other hand would cut right through these as they are level 2 protection not level 5.

how would these hold up in biking in cold NY weather?

If a person is riding the bike, fine. These won't bike by themselves though.

But are they comfy? What is the texture like? Terry-like? Wool-ish? Fleece-ish?

They are comfy. They are not scratchy like wool. Not so soft like fleece. In between like maybe cotton warm and thick. Too warm for summer

are these fire retardant so a welder could use them??

My husband is a welder and he using them and I haven't heard any complaints. We did buy 3 pair to be able to switch them out so they want wear out so fast.
