I have two holes 18 inches apart, for a european plate. i would like to mount a us plate without drilling more holes. will this work?

You need to get a US plate holder and see if the holes in that holder can be 18 inches apart. I went in the reverse direction (US plate holder to euro plate holder) and everything worked fine.
