I have limited knowledge of the stock market and investing. Like many people, I learned the basics in high school and college, but since I wasn’t an active investor, I quickly forgot most of what I learned. This book was a fantastic refresher for me and will be a great reference tool to look at from time to time. Like most people, I don’t have my own personal money manager or a fortune to invest – yet I still need to plan for college savings, retirement, etc. This book gives a good step by step explanation of different investments that would be suitable for someone in my situation. It explains how to not only choose, but also how to buy and sell stocks, bonds, and mutual funds, and makes it seems simple enough to do. Since no one is earning money in savings accounts or CDs anymore, it’s important to have an alternate method to save and grow your money. Furthermore, it gives a great explanation of diversifying your investments and building a long term investment portfolio. I highly recommend this book for anyone interested in learning the mysteries of investments.

One of the best chapter is on the fundamentals of the stock market. I am so glad I bought this book. I knew little to nothing about investing before I read it. It is well written and easy to understand. It begins with the most basic concept - why people invest and moves from there through each basic concept in a simple progression. It really helps you to see how if you follow some simple steps, you can start with a small amount of money and a few hours a week of research and create a portfolio. It includes advice on such subjects as selecting a broker, how to buy and sell stocks, ways to assess a stock, and how to analyze a company's income statement and balance sheet. My favorite analogy is the use of a simple trip to the grocery store to explain diversification in your portfolio - brilliant!! I will definitely return to this book over and over as I create my investment plan for the future.

I confess to an almost complete ignorance about the stock market. I know when it rises, it’s good; when it falls, it’s bad. Period. If you are a complete stock market newbie, this book is a great start. You don’t need a course in finance to get grounded. The beginning of the book is extremely basic, but it ramps up pretty quickly. Grab a pencil and work through the examples and you will learn the difference between a P/B and a P/E and so much more. Don’t expect get-rich-quick advice but rather a studious study of the market. Even if you use an advisor, this background knowledge will allow you to evaluate their recommendations for yourself. Complete with some good general advice on overall investing and financial goal-setting, this book is will not disappoint.

Simple explanation, easily understood

Ein sehr gutes Einsteigerbuch. Begrifflichkeiten werden erläutert und es werden weitere Quellverweise und Leseempfehlungen gegeben. Diese stammen übrigens nicht vom Autor. Um Grundlagen zu schaffen, definitiv einen Kauf wert.

In my opinion doesn't exist a book where you can find all you need for your financial investment neither a book teach you everything you need to became a good investor but this book at least give you some valid lesson for start .
