great for the price
Worked great out of the box. I would get an extra for a grandparent or older person as It seemed easy to use. Sounded better than expected for the pricepoint. I had a Klipsch bluetooth speaker in my office that went to another room and this is the replacement. Obviously, this is no comparison on sound quality but it did so well I am going to keep it in the office. You dont even notice the CD tray as it is hidden behind the logo. Dislikes: buttons and nobs a bit cheap plastic chrome looking feeling but work well, remote feels like I have to aim it well for it to work so far, I dont see how to tune the radio so far without the remote....but i probably need to read more. It would be nice if it came with an antenae ..... Likes: price, looks good on shelf, nice to have a CD player as an option if you want to pull out a cd from your archives, Blue Tooth seems to connect fast once set up and set up was pretty easy. Like the USB port in the front in case I want to stick a thumbdrive of music inโฆ.cd of mp3s works!

The long name says it allโฆ
The look is retro but the technology is very current. Iโm vintage myself and itโll take awhile for me to get used to programming it. The remote is crucialโI did manage to set the clock and play a vintage CD. Patted myself on the back too soon. I started writing this review (itโs midnight) when, suddenly, it began raining. Louder than any rain Iโve ever heard. Then I thought it was a broken water pipe and imagined water pouring all over the house. Ran around the the house trying to figure out what pipe had burst. Woke up hubby. Panic set in. Then, it hitโthe Toshiba TY-CWU700 Vintage Style Retro Look Micro Component Wireless Bluetooth Audio Streaming & CD Player Wood Speaker System + Remote, USB Port for MP3 Playback, FM Stereo Digital Tuner, AUX Input (New) FM radio was spewing static at an ungodly volume! Antenna not yet attached. System was turned off. Somehow, when setting it up, I must have programmed the radio to come on at midnight! Anyway, Iโm happy to have this lovely box that looks like it does a lot less than its name implies, and Iโm sure that Iโll figure it all out. The sound is great and you can program the clock for either Army (24h) time or 12h time.

5 Stars if Sound Quality is the Decider
I wanted to give this all-in-one player 5 stars, but there a just a few things that make it not intuitively easy to use. Normally Iโm one to read the users manual before anything, but I felt like a music player is something I have a lot of experience with, so I jumped right into using it and then ran into these obstacles. First, you have to turn it on before anything will work. Seems like a minor issue, but it kept throwing me. For example, if you hit the tray open button for CDs, it wonโt open until you first hit the power button and then the tray open button. Once itโs on, itโs on, but I must have some memory from past players just activating with any function, so Iโll have to get used to that. > The buttons on the unit itself are small and shiny, so theyโre hard to read. I had to bend down and get close to it to see which buttons were which. > The buttons on the remote are also confusing. There are many functions controlled by the remote, so there are many labels on it, but some are over the buttons and some are on the buttons and some are beside the buttons (with no color coding). Itโs just not easily clear how each of them works. For example, โSLEEPโ is written over a button and โTIMERโ is on the button, โAUTOโ is over a button and the stop symbol is on itโฆand what is โFOLD+โ and โFOLD-โ? Youโll probably have to open the manual to figure out the remote. > I couldnโt get my iPhone to play using the USB cable. I didnโt get far enough to figure out why, though (maybe itโs not supposed to), but I just opted for Bluetooth and that worked. > This last thing might be nit picky, but the clock display is weird (see my photo). The time shows as AM/PM 00:00, and not 00:00 AM/PM. I did an internet search and I couldnโt find any country that writes their time with AM/PM before the time, so I donโt know why they made it so on this unit, but I canโt get used to it. There is a 24 hour clock option, but I wouldnโt get used to that either. > Regardless of my complaints, I love this player. The sound quality is excellent and has no problems filling my apartment. I also love the vintage look and the size is just what I wanted, big enough to be a focal piece on a tabletop, but not be a huge sound system. It is a little more expensive than what I initially wanted to spend, but after reading through reviews, I took a chance and Iโm happy with my decision because for me, itโs definitely worth it.

Compact, simple, good sound
This is a compact, beautiful CD player that blends easily into my living room. In less than 10 minutes I had it out of the box, tuned into my favorite FM station, programmed with the correct time, and playing CDs. The sound is quite decent, but a lot depends on the quality of your CDS. I have a few commercial CDs of albums recorded in the 1960s, and they arenโt so great. But anything digitally remastered or made from the 1990s on sounds good. The preset equalizer settings are helpful and I found that changing them for some CDS can improve the sound quality to something almost spectacular. I am not disappointed at all, and grateful that Toshiba is still a brand you can trust. Have not tried pairing with Bluetooth yet or using the USB. The remote has tiny little buttons and you have to be within about 8 feet of the machine for it to work, and the remote is the weakest part of this system. If you want to easily enjoy your CDs while just hanging out, it is great value for money. We are thinking about buying another one for a different room.

Spare yourself this clunker & save money & disappointment.
I bought Toshiba's first iteration of this unit over 15 years ago. It performed faultlessly for more than a decade. What's more, it had a cabinet veneered in real wood, its settings were simple to establish, its controls were easy to use, and its clock lost nary a second from year to year. Of the sterling traits of its ancestor, the current TCY-CWU700 preserves high sound quality; it is also augmented now by a USB function and Bluetooth connectivity. In every other respect, it has come far down in the world, from its case (made today of "wood-tone" pressed fiberboard) to its poorly receptive FM antenna and its plethora of confusing operating menus. Ignoring the many reviews warning of the unreliabity of the second-generation unit, I purchased one in late December 2018. Over time I grew accustomed to its clock losing five minutes every month, to the ill-positioned infra-red sensors that the remote control struggled to find, to its balky CD tray, and to the way it refused to remain consistently paired via Bluetooth with my smartphone and my laptop computer. Today the miserable device finally expired, in only its 10th month. But not before it first obediently powered on at my command, cycled through to the CD function, read the disc I had inserted - and then flashed a message never before seen in its LED display: "MCI-UP." I turned off the unit, and found I could not turn it back on, either manually or with the remote control (outfitted with a fresh battery). Unplugging the power cord and plugging it back in (and eventually replacing it) was likewise to no avail; nor did switching wall outlets restore the equipment to life. Consultation of the operator manual, an internet search, and on-line "chat" with Toshiba tech support revealed no hint of what the enigmatic "MCI-UP" might signify, other than that it was the unit's dying utterance: its equivalent of Citizen Kane's "Rosebud." The selling point of this shelf-top sound system is its combination of low price and attractive "retro" look. But its appeal as inexpensive room decor doesn't outweigh its defective manufacture and short life span. Be wiser than me, and choose other equipment if you wish to listen to your music conveniently and reliably.

Nice CD player - FM radio
Unit came packaged nice, it's of nice size, looks, and sound. The remote is rather small but useable. Directions are vauge but adequate. It has a clock and FM programmable settings (up to 30) and if there is a power disruption the clock time and the program settings do not get lost, that's a big plus. I've only had the unit for two days so don't know how long it will last but I would not be surprised if it lasts for years. The only bad thing I can say about it is that it comes with a 4' power cord, kinda short I feel. I think it is well worth the price and would recommend it.

Nice looking and sounding stereo for the money.
The sound is decent and can get pretty loud without distortion. It is a good-looking stereo. The case is not made of wood as others have mentioned but it will fool most people. The remote controls and programs almost everything; keep it close and protected. It has a basic but clear display. It will tell you that you are listening via bluetooth but will not show any song or related info. There is no AM functionality. Don't purchase if you need AM radio. I haven't tried the CD portion. I don't need it. Programming the FM presets isn't very intuitive. Be sure to keep the instructions taped to the bottom for future reference. If you want AM ability, real wood, super bluetooth, high-speed display, and intuitive programming, you should be looking for at least a $250 unit. If you just want some tunes for your workshop with basic bluetooth ability, this works well for much less $.

Great Stereo With 70's Retro Look
I optioned for the $90 renewed model, ($140) reg. price...nice wood grain look cabinet, solidly built. I have small 10'X12' "man cave" room, and its overall sound is more than adequate for the space. FM picks up well with supplied antenna wire. Bluetooth works well with about 25' range...CD player is very good. USB plug in works great for flash drive or hard plug in of an audio device...has 3.5mm aux jack for input on front of stereo. I plugged in my record player...works great. Overall sound is crisp and no distortion. Bass is adequate, but not booming. Remote is good. When unit power is turned off, there is constant digital clock display with AM/PM. Great product for great price !

Works as advertised. A small audio system that sounds great for its size and price.
I wanted something to replace my existing Creative Bluetooth speaker and hopefully play some CDs. This thing rocks. Not only is this great sound for the price (and size), but it adds FM, CD and line in so that it now becomes an integral part of my bedroom AV system. It fits so well into my current setup, I would have paid double the price. I love it.
