For some reason the challenge mode will not launch and you will get a crash error. There's supposed to be fixes for this but I tried all of them that I could find and I did not find one yet that works. The thing I love about this game is going in and editing the units. If it wasn't for that I would have grown tired of it a long time ago. Awesome game! Works on Win 11 IF...
I've spent more hours on this game over the years than I would care to admit. It's when I do when the weather is bad usually. It is an absolutely beautiful game on Windows 11. Second favorite strategy game, ever!
This was my second favorite strategy game ever! The only one that I enjoyed better was Close Combat: Battle of the Bulge. Command and Conquer Generals (and Zero Hour) is a challenging, yet entertaining, game that teaches you all about timing, resource management, and strategy. I loved this game. The only problem I had with it was that the AI tended to cheat a lot at the highest difficulty level. Other than that, I loved it!

Maybe I'm just getting old
But this game wasn't as much fun as Red Alert II. The solo play is very much the same, too fast and furious for much strategy, and your units as dumb as ever require constant babysitting. I get kicks by winning without reloading, through "superior thinking" but alas it never worked, either it was a walk in the park or I had to replay the same mission many times. As for multiplayer, do I really want to compete in "who can give commands faster than playing piano"? That being said it has excellent graphics and voices and high production values. Units gaining experience is a plus, even though you can't keep track of them. And there are indeed a great variety of units, too bad it seems impossible to control them fast enough.

Missing the main disc
Missing the number 1 disc for generals. Can’t install the game without it. It came with disc 1&2 for zero hours but only disc 2 for generals.

Very old game purchased from nostalgia
Is it as good as games nowadays? Definitely not. Is it as good as I remember it? Not really. Is it fun? Yeah. Was it worth purchasing at the price I got it for? Sure.

Great game minor issues
Well ill start of by saying that this game rocks and while I was deployed I would play this all the time. Recenentlly I got a windows 7 laptop and even though it was not design this system it worked great. My only issue is that the actual cd was from the UK and not the US. Besides that's I ran into some issues installing it, my laptop would freeze if I ran the generals.exe. So I had to install it manually searching through the actual cd. Once it was installed I had to run it in compatibility mode windows xp sp2. It work fine but ran into display issues. The maximum this game can go is 1024 by 768 or something like that. Well I had to modify the generals data and go to options and switch the settings to 1600 by 900, for both generals and generals zero hour. Other than that this game rules. So if you're thinking about getting this game get it.
