Lifoam Hercules Styrofoam Ice Chest, Huskee Collection, 45 quart

This was a fantastic purchase for building a feral cat shelter. I knew two of the ferals from the colony had been "pushed" out of my other shelters so I wanted to put up an alternative shelter in another location and decided to try a different type of shelter (my other shelters are made of plastic tubs lined with Styrofoam sheeting). This worked perfectly - nice thick walls. And I was happy it was out there during this "arctic" weather snap we had.. the ferals emerged the next morning warm and alive... How does it work as a cooler? I'm sure it would be fine - nice solid construction... The hinge is just clear tape along the back - but it works fine (although I admit I haven't opened and closed it many times).

Served my purposes perfectly, i used it to make one of those DIY air conditioners. Arrived 2 days after i ordered it, standard shipping. Perhaps that's why this cost so much. I Don't know if Styrofoam is just super expensive now or something, but this is NOT worth 28 dollars. However i did pay for it, and it works beautifully.

I actually bought this to make a cat house for my barn cats, so I wanted something much heavier duty & thicker than the styrofoam "coolers" you often see. This exceeded my expectations and worked perfectly for my "barn cat house" application. Turned upside down, I cut an arch in one end and replaced the bottom, holding it on with plastic packing tape. Duct tape would work to, but not look as good. Turned upside down it makes a really nice insulated shelter. We placed a heated pet cushion inside routing the wire out of a hole in the back and up a wall into an electric receptacle. Was perfect this winter with a few weeks of below zero temps. All of this sad, its also obvious to me this would be a much better ice chest than others you see out there as it is a full 2 inches thick sides, top and bottom. Way more sturdy than others I have seen. Still a styrofoam ice chest loaded with ice and your favorite beverages likely shouldn't be transported loaded. Even one as heavy duty as this Lifoam unit.

I'm a bit upset with the consistency of my orders. The first cooler I ordered was great for my intended use. I make feral cat shelters and this cooler had a lot if space inside so that two cats could easily fit in it even with straw and Mylar liner. I ordered a second cooler but the one I received was completely different, yet they both had a sticker on it that said 5345 45-quart cooler. I have to make due with the ones I've got as I'm on a deadline and don't have enough time to ship it back. The one that already had the Mylar liner in my pictures is substantially taller and has more inside space. Be careful what you receive in your order!

On supply runs for our cat rescue, we need to haul many pounds of ground organ meat from the local meat packing house while still running errands for banking, usual groceries, hardware, library etc. but the meat stays frozen and we don't dawdle yet otherwise it was always worrisome. This is so feather light and roomy. Came amazingly fast after we got a look at the amazon reviews and put in the order. Sits so perfectly in the back of the van, handy for loading and unloading. Thank you for reminding me to write a review as i had intended once the reality of how it was just what we needed settled in. So simple.

I also ordered these for feral cat homes. They are pretty heavy-duty Styrofoam, and a good size. Of course they are lightweight, so need to be fastened down. Forget the "hinged lid", as it is a strip of scotch tape. Since others have mentioned cats' reactions, I will as well: I have a mom & 4 kittens. The kittens will play in and around them, but for sleep they still join mom in an open cardboard box. I'm thinking I'll not use a food lure as we have raccoons and opossums galore. Just hoping they will grow to be more comfortable with them over time.

My landlord doesn't turn on the A/C till late June. I couldn't handle it anymore so I bought this along with a blizzard fan, a bunch of 3 liter frozen water bottles and and a metal vent, cut two large holes in the top and used as a temporary A/C. Very makeshift, it actually worked quite well. Only problem is the water bottles go from solid ice blocks to liquid in 2-3 hours and freezer isn't big enough for two sets of 6, 3-liter water bottles. Definitely not it's intended purpose, but it worked.

Perfect size and quality for my purposes. At Thanksgiving, I purchase a frozen 24#-27# turkey a week prior to the holiday and leave it outside with a bag of ice. This cooler is perfect. It holds the cold well enough that I have to loosen the lid the last two days for the turkey to thaw gradually.
