With the Godly influence of her grandmother and mother, she learned what was really worthwhile in life. She moved to a school for the blind in New York. They were amazed at her memory. She had the first 5 books of the Old Testament memorized as well as the 4 Gospels, Proverbs, much of Psalms and more. She could play the piano, harp and guitar. She was 35 before she wrote her first hymn. When she died just short of being 95, she had written over 8000 hymns. Many are still sung today in churches. She loved to work with the poor and needy.
