Embroidered Country Gardens: Create beautiful hand-stitched floral designs inspired by nature

This is an inspirational book for me. I am a seasoned embroiderer but have done little in recent years due to loss of control of my right hand. Searching for a way back in to a loved hobby to while away the coming winter evenings, I saw this book and was drawn to it. Howglad I am that I bought it! The designs are reminiscent of home in the 50s and 60s. my mother came from an old fashioned home, where girls still prepared a trousseau in their teens and she and my grandmother made embroidered items throughout the two decades before I was born, using the then popular flower and stylised ladies transfers of the time. They came to add colour to our later post-war home with otherwise dull, utility furnishing. They went out of fashion in my late childhood, but still remained as happy memories for me. This lovely, photographically illustrated book is a feast of memories for me. However, far from the set lines of the transfer designs, this encourages use of the small designs offered to create completely individual larger embroideries on a variety of sewing-related items and beyond. It lends itself to creater creativity whilst allowing the use of Lorna Bateman's easy to use designs and make a whole that is as simple or complex as the embroiderer wishes. For me, as I re-remember old skills and relearn them as a 'lefty,' this offers both hope and inspiration. Patterns for the the fabric cutting in order to copy the things shown in the book are included in a folder at the back of the book. All the designs for the actual embroidery can be traced off from the pages and full instructions for stitches and embroidery techniques used are included, making this accessible and helpful to people with all skill levels. Thank you Lorna Bateman, I love this book! Now I just need to save up for all the equipment I need to get started in my bid in becoming an embroiderer again.

I wouldn’t say I am heavily into embroidery, but my goodness this book is inspiring. It’s is beautiful. So many projects and I discovered to my delight patterns at the back. This book is suitable from beginner to advanced. Lorna guides you through the tools, threads and fabrics that you need and eventually want. She teaches you different techniques and stitches and even painting onto fabric to enhance your eventual piece's. I am thrilled with my book and would recommend it as a gift for flourishing embroiderers or for those who enjoy the more intense detail Lorna presents in her work. It is a gift that keeps on giving. Wonderful!

I saw Lorna Bateman talking about this book on You Tube and I couldnt wait for it to be released Its every bit as good as I hoped, a wealth of stitches, projects, techniques and a superb section on embroidery tools . All in full colour with fantastic diagrams and photographs Lorna said it took her the best part of three years to write and all that shows in the attention to detail in the fabulous book This is a must have Be for beginners and experienced sewists alike Can't wait to try the projects

This is a book which will give hours of pleasure even just paging through it. There are lots of ideas to make up your own flower garden project as well as many other projects you can do using the examples given of which there are so many. It is a fabulous book and worth having in your library. It also has included at the back patterns you can use to trace for the various projects suggested in the book so all the measuring is done for you.. This is a book that will show you that anyone can make these beautiful pieces with the help of this lovely book.

This is a must have for anyone who loves embroidery. It took me awhile to decide whether I needed this book but I’m so pleased that I decided to buy it. All I can say is you won’t regret it and I’m not surprised at the amount of good reviews it’s received. If you go onto YouTube and search Lorna Batemen Embroidery she discusses the book and how to use it. Very useful video.

I bought this book because it has many projects like scissors case, pin cushion, etc which incorporate the author's hand embroidery designs. There are patterns for the hand embroidery designs as well as patterns for the projects like pattern to make a scissors case, pincushion etc.

Libro muy bonito, está en inglés pero se entiende perfectamente. Estéticamente es un 10, tiene muchas ideas aunque la mayoría también las en encuentras en Internet. Lo que me gusta es que es un libro en papel de buen tamaño, hojas de calidad y fotografías excelentes. No es un libro para principiantes, hay que tener alguna noción pero si quieres empezar mira algún tutorial y listo. El libro trae en la parte trasera los patrones para hacer los proyectos. Los puntos están explicados bastante bien y también alguna técnica cómo poner relieve.

This book has very clear instructions for making the various stitches plus an excellent background on what tools you need to start with. It's a great book for a beginner and has some projects for more challenging patterns for the experienced embroiderer. The pictures are clear and make you want to get started right now. If you are wondering about how to make flowers, realistic, she covers many flowers with how-to and hints.
