I have used backpacks (book bags, hiking packs, daypacks, travel packs) for 46 years and currently own nine different ones for different uses. I bought the Cabin Max specifically for a basic economy United Airlines roundtriip flight with layovers. I own some very high end packs and did not expect that level of quality with this basic, relatively cheap pack. I did hope to get basic quality and the pack I received delivered on this. Seams were tight, zippers seemed sturdy, easy to use, and held up well, straps and back padding were more than adequate. When doing minimalist packing, a basic pack is what you want, both for weight considerations and to maximize space. This pack is basic: one main compartment, one admin pocket, one small front pocket which was wide and deep (compared to the pack) but very shallow, and a small mesh side pocket that was suitable for a small, light water bottle (I wouldn't trust it with anything very heavy or long) or it was suitable to stuff a small beanie, a pair of gloves, etc. The front pocket comfortably fit a blister pack (without the box) of allergy meds, a travel vial of ibuprofen, an extra hair scrunchie, and ten 1$ bills. In the main compartment I had two small Thule compression packing cubes with five days worth of clothes; one pair size six Sanuk shoes (which basically crush flat) in a very thin, open ended polyester? bag; a small crossbody purse which held my jewelry, insurance cards, a couple of credit cards, a travel pack of hand sanitizing wipes, and a travel pack of tissues; a very light mesh bag of odds and ends and non-liquid toiletries; my clear 3-1-1 bag of liquids; and a semi-rigid glasses case with sunglasses. The admin pocket has a shallow flap length zippered mesh pocket on the front side, a slip pocket with no padding for a tablet on the side next to the main compartment, two small slip pockets and a small (maybe 3x3?) zippered mesh pocket on the front of the tablet pocket, and an open mesh pocket below this running the width of the compartment to help corral items. I put my cords and a couple of other small light objects in the long zippered mesh pocket, my charging block went in the small zippered mesh pocket, and a change purse with quarters, a plastic seven day pill case, my reading glasses, travel brush/mirror combo, and a granola bar were stuck in the various other nooks of the admin pocket. I did take my tablet in its case (normally wouldn't take but needed to do some work on my trip) and it fit well in the slip pocket. All of this weighed about 12 pounds, did not overload the pack (full but not stuffed; I still had a little room in the bag), and the pack handled it well. If I had not taken the tablet it would have weighed about 10 pounds, and been better balanced, but this set up worked well. The pack has upper and lower compression straps which did help compress somewhat although they are not very hefty, but they were really useful to secure my extra jacket. The top handle has some very nice padding on it also. Although I normally stick with a basic black or navy color, I purchased a sort of green and blue jungle plant print (it was $10 cheaper than the solid colors and I did find the print cheerful), and after being scuffed around under the seats of four different airplanes, it still looks brand new. I was very happy with this pack. It did exactly what I needed it to do and was slightly under the size dimensions for a personal item on United (17x10x9). I look forward to using it in the future for similar trips. Great job Cabin Max!
