I would highly recommend going with the manufacturer bust measurements to determine your size. The manufacturer put into comments: Bust: (1XL)36-40 inches (2XL)38-42 inches (3XL)40-44 inches. Had I followed that guideline (instead of reviews) I would have ordered a 2XL. For reference, my bust is exactly 40"....instead, I listened to reviews and ordered a 3XL. The 3XL was too big on me. I am 5'9"/160/36DD. My measurements are 40/30/40. The 2XL would have fit nicely, 1XL would have fit snug. I returned the item because once I received it, I did not like the style. I felt like a 60 year old grandma in this. The (removable) pin broach is really cheap looking. But I thought it might look nice on my mother (who is much shorter than I am). I think I would have liked the shirt if the overlay came all the way down to the bottom on one side as it does in the photo. The one I received (even in a 3XL) did not. The overlay stopped half-way between the sleeve and bottom, so it looked like I was wearing two mismatched shirts. As another reviewer stated, if you are large on top, then your chest pulls the overlay up, making me look like I was wearing a sheer, lopsided bib, or a poncho designed for a teen size person. The black part underneath is an attached black tank-top, made of opaque stretchy material. I would love to see this style in a different, younger pattern and some medium toned colors. I hope this review was helpful to you. Love Amazon's return policy and love some of my other eVogues tops (see my other reviews). It is very versatile and can be worn in an office setting or a more dressier occasion. Very very pretty. I received it sooner than the estimated date which worked out well for me. The top had just enough elasticity to be comfortable and look nice. The poncho part of the top is lovely and made the outfit dressy without being fussy. I'll find many more occasions to wear this. I would recommend this top to everyone.
