There are some 1 star reviews and they all make the same complaint,and they all have A) defective equipment or B) it's user error. This call is not a typical duck call that you blow into. You have to make the lowest bass note you can hum in your throat - "HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM" and hum into the call to make quick short whistley/quacks to imitate the Mallard Drake. It takes some practice and Jase from Duck Commander gives you instructions on YouTube. This is a really famous call - most Duck Hunters have it or have one similar to add in with their other calls in the blind. It works great. I have this one and if you are on a budget - get the whistle instead. You can get a similar sound that you do in this one, but you get the pintail/widgeon calls as well and dove etc. If you have a 3 man blind and 1 guy is on the call, 1 guy has this and another guy is whistling or doing a different raspy call... that is extremely effective.

It takes some practice. Watch the several videos on Youtube. The plastic is tough and easy to take out into the field. I'm not an expert, but with it, I was able to attract a number of mallards from a bit away. It certainly did not scare the ducks away.

It did what it said it was going to do but you have to master this item. It whistles not quack as the item says. A low, very low voice is needed. It is not the item I will be using on a regular basis, but it is something to use on a still day. And suitably a pond situation. I shoot big water (lakes).

This is a classic and I’m so happy they are still making it! It’s a go to for our whole family!!!
