## Description

Product Description German submarine Type VII Set Contains: Model Kit, Decals, Instructions.

Review: If you like modeling U-Boats, it's about as good as you'll get - Revell knows how to mould model ships ... when it wants to. I'm building two of them right now - this model of a German Type VII C/41 U-boat, the most common variety in the stable of Admiral Donitz, who led the sub force. For the money, it's a lot of value. The other one I'm building is an ANCIENT kit of a soviet fishing boat converted to spy on US Carrier task forces. I built one literally decades ago, and have really wanted to build another one. At that time the kit was presented as a deep-sea fishing trawler, and I converted it to a Soviet spy ship. Now the kit IS a Soviet spy ship ... but that kit hasn't aged well. I haven't checked out the Type VII U-boat kit, but I researched them extensively for a novel I was considering writing - I eventually moved on as it didn't want to "come together" the way I'd envisioned it. But I'm glad to re-make my acquaintance with the kit again (like the fishing trawler, I've built this one before). It's a sweetheart of a kit. Everything fits, the detail is very good given its scale (1/144th Scale). If I rebuild my model railroad layout (hope springs eternal), I'll have a small Naval Museum, with this kit as an on-display war prize. Actually, the only war prize German U-Boat I'm aware of is at the Chicago Museum of Science and History (I think that's it's name) which has the U-505 - captured by a US carrier task force led by the USS Guadalcanal, overseen by an Admiral Gallery - who wrote a book about how he engineered the boarding and capture of the damaged U-Boat. Well worth reading if you can find it - check a public library, as Gallery's books are out of print hard to find and costly for anybody but a collector. Back to this kit, it's easy to assemble, unless you want to rig the ship with lifelines, radio antennae and other filiments. I'd either use one of the stretchy rigging lines from Germany (where this kit is from) or I'll stretch some sprue - something beyond the scope of this review. Basically, you take one of the runners (called sprues) that the parts came on, heat it over a candle flame until it start to sag, then pull the two ends apart. What's left in the middle is a stretched sprue. Being plastic, you can use "model glue" or you can use Krazy Glue in any of its many iterations. Or, if there's a PE kit for this kit, they might have the lines you need. I've never been a big fan of PE (short for "Photo Etched" - a process that allows you to make very tiny segments of brass or steel to give added accuracy to the built-up model. This U-Boat model kit is worth if, if you like submarines. Like almost all submarine models (except a few created in larger scales - 1/72nd, 1/35th, etc.) which are uber-detailed but EXPENSIVE (and worth it if you like big ship models), it's as good as you'll get.
Review: Good model, but NOT for beginners. - I purchased this as a gift for my son's birthday. This was the smallest model he has done thus far, and probably the best one. It actually helped him to learn how to use model glue better and more efficiently. The instructions for the decals could be a bit easier to understand, especially for a 12 year old. They were picture only with no written directions. The same is true for each step of putting the model together. There are TINY pieces in this model so it is NOT an appropriate model for young builders or those just starting out. Because there are tiny pieces, you need to have a model builders tool kit that has model tweezers to hold those tiny pieces.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Small but perfect for diorama
*by J***M on February 6, 2024*

Bought this because it was simple and quick to build, has great detail, and is just the right size for a small diorama. I will buy again and make one that is blowing up in the water from a torpedo. It’s a great price as well!
