On a laptop
I got this magnifier for a client who is visually impaired and trying to learn to use a computer. We tried the built in magnifier in Windows, but found it difficult to keep track of where on a page he was looking. While this screen was designed for a monitor, it will work on a laptop monitor as well though it does cover the power button and some of the keys but we also got him a high contrast keyboard so that was not a problem. One difficulty with using it on a laptop is keeping it in place as it does not hang from the monitor as it was designed to do. Another is light. He needs to have the keyboard well lit and the glare from the light reflects off the screen, but he can position it so it works for him. It doesn't work so well with me looking at it from the side as I help him. If you need a bigger screen and don't want to spring for a bigger monitor, this is a pretty good solution.

NEEDS STRONGER MAGNIFICATION
Thew magnification is NOT strong enough you should advise the manufacture .. That the market for visually impaired people to use the product would be great;y increased if the Magnification was increased a lot more .. The basic principal works well .. On my recent visit to CHINA .I tried to buy something similar at the biggest Computer retailer in HONG KONG without success there is a huge untapped market there .for the product .... By the way the Packaging was excellent over thew top really you could save costs by reducing the amount of protective wrapping DENNIS GRAHAM

Works very well if everything is setup properly!
I use a program that has very small type that does not get larger if the program is enlarged or if the computer settings are changed. I use this magnifier on a laptop that is elevated to eye level with an external keyboard attached. It works perfectly with this setup! (It doesn't work as well if you're looking through it at an angle.) The magnifier sits about 5 inches in front of the screen when the swing arms are fully extended. This will block the keyboard on a laptop. The swing arms can be turned so that the magnifier moves closer to the screen, but this will lessen the amount of magnification. I ended up using the bottom arms to support the screen on the front edge of my laptop so that it sits about 9 inches from the screen for more magnification. I work in an extremely dry environment so the magnifier does attract a lot of lint and dust, but I'll increase the humidity and find some anti-static spray so I won't have to clean the screen as often. Reflections from light sources can also be a problem, but I just rearranged a bit and this problem was solved.

Does what it says.
My company decided to change our PCs to these tiny 15 inch notebooks without giving us an option to opt out. I have bad eyesight and the tiny screen was giving me headaches and eye strain. I have two other monitors in addition to it but still have to use the notebook screen because my work requires switching from multiple apps simultaneously. This has been a significant help with my tiny screen. It is a fresnel lense so you have concentric circles and some loss of light and sharpness due to the magnification. I use a desklamp to increase the brightness and you just have to get used to the fresnel. This product sits in front of the notebook keyboard so it's not usuable but I have a seperate wired keyboard and this wasn't an issue for me. I would recommend this product but I'm not sure that the price point is exactly right it seems a bit expensive for what you're getting.

Needs to be wider for a laptop
I bought this screen for my laptop. I use a wireless keyboard and mouse. I have the laptop on a desk and when I sit back in my chair to work, I find the screen too distant and difficult to read. This magnifier covers the keyboard and basically brings the screen closer to make it easier to read. It doesn't seem to really magnify the screen that much. Although everything is closer and a bit bigger, it is not quite as clear. The dimensions are not correct on this. It is closer to 14 by 11. The screen needs be be a bit wider to see the sides clearly. The top and bottom are fine. It depends on how close you set to the screen. I'm a little over 2 feet from the screen and loose close to an inch on either side. I have to shift my head to get a clear view of the side. If I sat closer to the screen it would be easier to read, but I would not be as comfortable. I would have to say this is not worth it. It would be better to simply get an external monitor. The external monitor I had did not work well with my new computer so I decided to go this route. This is cheaper than an external monitor, but not that much cheaper. If you work all day on a computer, you are much better off getting a larger external monitor.

Didn't fit my needs.
Apparently I misread the description on line. This item was for a desk top computer and I was looking for a magnifier for a lap top computer. It probably works very well on a desk top, but it was too big for the laptop. I repacked it in the same box and returned it to the vendor.

This is a wonderful product.
This is a wonderful product. I don't know why I didn't think of this sooner. I have one database at work where the print is so small, I have to squint and lean forward to see that data. I have floaters and obviously, the eyes strain was getting annoying. I have only used this for two days, but I can already feel a difference with eye strain and twitching. The only downside is that the screen collects dust and lint rather quickly. The screen comes with a cleaning cloth but you cannot use it on the reverse side due to the grooves in the plastic. I will use a clean blush brush to clean that side of the screen until I can purchase canned air.

NOT WORTH the PRICE ๐
It's a little blurry. Not magnifying enough worth $100. JS. A little hard to adjust when placing it on screen...
