Everything you need at a good price point.
I’ve been making home espresso for a long time (25+ years and 14 years as a barista in the industry). This is an excellent pick prep starter set for your 54mm breville espresso machine (I’m using a barista pro, which is a backup unit). I would say it is a medium level set. Meaning this is by far NOT a high end, highest quality set, but you’re also not spending $300. However, that’s not a bad thing. For the price, this set is def punching above its weight class and the value you get is a lot considering what it cost. Chances are, if you have a breville machine, you’re not going to want to spend $300+ on puck-prep tools. If you have a la marzocco linea mini ($7k) this level of tools isn’t for you (assuming you’d get the 58mm version). This comes with 7 pieces, everything you need to start properly prepping your espresso. Wooden set stand (holder)- it holds all your tools that are included. From tamper to puckscreen. It’s made of wood and is pleasing to look at. It has soft pads at the bottom to not scratch your tamp surface or other tools. The down side is it isn’t tall enough to hold your portafilter. The portafilter is angled with the handle. If you boost this stand/station up aprox 2 inches, it’s perfect and your portafilter will sit flat. The bursh- it has two sides and you are essentially getting a two in one brush. Soft and stiff bristle. It allows you to gently brush and comb/clean grinds depending on your need. WDT- this is a good manual WDT. If this were a 58.5mm portafilter, the needle count would be enough. However, on breville’s proprietary 54mm, it’s a bit too many needles. Luckily, you can remove the needles. I removed two of them. It also comes with its own stand. Portafilter Tamper- it has a surface concentric design. So your tamped espresso will have concentric circles on it. This works perfectly with the puck screen and allows you to have slight margin for error in tamping when used with a puck screen. It’s very forgiving. This also has a nice hefty weight to it because the tamp interface is solid metal/alloy. The tamp is adjustable for height so once you dial it in, it’s repeatable (important). Pick screen- this is the real star and what will make the biggest difference because it will allow the water to evenly distribute to the espresso. The stock shower screen on the breville is poor and water distribution is mediocre at best (a pesado58 HD54 fixes this). The puck will help evenly pressurize and distribute water, especially if you have a bottomless portafilter. With all this combined, you’ll be able to make excellent espresso as long as you are diligent and consistent in proper puck prep (and assuming you are using quality beans) My shots are 18g in 36-27g out, 6s pre infusion, 28s total on a medium roast bean. Ground at #7 on the breville. Espresso comes out excellent and full of flavor. The waste puck is dry (as it should be). Overall i definitely recommend this set for your breville. It will allow you to make amazing espresso, even with a lower end machine like a breville.

Torn between 3 stars and 4 stars
I’ve been sitting on this one for a while trying to decide what rating to give it, and I’ll tell you why. What I like: - the filter (I use it every time now! I can tell a difference when I make my espressos) - the brush (also gets used nearly every time) - the tamp is a good weight - the holder keeps things tidy and looks nice What I don’t use/neutral: - the ground guard when pouring (though I probably should use it) What I don’t like: - the stirrer is dangerous and a potential hazard if you have children in the house. It has very fine needles and, while it comes with a guard, the device just sits inside the guard. There’s no locking mechanism or anything. So if it falls over (or if your kid somehow gets ahold of it), you’re about to be in for a very bad day. I poked myself with it (not realizing how sharp the points were) and it really hurt. I’m knocking one star off for safety purposes (the guard should have a locking mechanism on it). If you have kids, be aware of this item and make sure it is far, far out of reach (or do what I did and throw that part of the set away for peace of mind). I like some of the pieces in this set a lot (which is why I’m still rating it high), but I thought a lot about whether to knock 1 or 2 stars off for the stirrer (and lack of locking mechanism on the holder). I decided on one star (because not everyone has the same scenario I do). This is also my first set with these pieces, so I’m not sure how the price compares to other similar sets.

durable great product
When I ordered this espresso tamper tool set, I was pleasantly surprised by how many useful items were included in the kit. It comes with quite a few tools designed to help improve espresso preparation. The set includes a thin needle distribution tool that helps break up clumps and spread the coffee grounds more evenly inside the portafilter. It also comes with a spinning distribution disc and a funnel that sits on top of the portafilter, which helps keep grounds from spilling while you are working. The kit also includes a spring loaded tamper, which I really appreciate because it helps apply consistent pressure every time you tamp. In addition to those main tools, the set includes puck screen filters, a small brush for cleaning, and a stand to keep everything organized. I like that everything has its place, which helps keep the espresso station tidy and makes the tools easy to reach when preparing a shot. After using most of the pieces in the set, I can say they do make a difference in the espresso preparation process. The needle tool and distributor help create a more even bed of coffee, and the spring loaded tamper gives a much more consistent tamp than doing it by hand alone. Since using this set, I have noticed an improvement in how my espresso machine pulls shots. The extraction feels more consistent, and the workflow is smoother overall. For anyone who enjoys making espresso at home and wants to refine their process a bit, this set is a really nice addition.

Some good, some bad, some ugly
OK, for the price I think you will definitely enjoy this kit. But I'm going to give you the low down on the good, the bad, and the ugly. The good: The brush is awesome! I love the brush! Nice stiff bristle side and a softer bristle side and just very attractive. Fits nicely in the organizer The organizer is very nice! It's an attractive and well finished solid chunk of wood. The distributor works well. It sits nicely atop your portafilter and spins. It feels super well made. The bad: The tamper. It has a leveling baffle with a very stiff spring which means that when you're tamping your coffee, you're feeling the resistance of the coffee grounds AND the baffle. Just doesn't make sense. If you've handled tampers before you know the baffle is very lightly sprung, while the tamper itself is strongly sprung (20-30lb spring). So really this tamper is worse than just a regular tamper without the baffle. They can fix that by lightening the spring. The ugly: The distributor is wrong on so many levels. First off, the needles are actually really sharp and I poked myself handling it. Not good. That distributor works but the needles are way too long and way too sharp. That's not the worst problem, though. The distributor holder is VERY wobbly and it just falls over if you breathe on it the wrong way and so the distributor and all those sharp needles come tumbling down. It's terrible. I compared it to my other distrbutor needles and those are not sharp. Check out the video. OK, so for the price, it's a good proposition, but if you want a more professional setup, I would look elsewhere. Still, for the price 4 stars.

Very nice, well built, solid, heavy tools, no instructions
Overall, this is a very nice set, but the lack of instructions is annoying, especially for an espresso newbie like myself. Using the dosing funnel is pretty obvious, and I really like the fact that it is magnetic - I needed one of these so badly to avoid making a mess every time. The smoother - I had no idea until I looked it up, but it is very solid and well built. The tamper is spring-loaded so that you can get the right pressure, but there is nothing to equate the markings on the shaft to a lbs/inch equivalent. This matters because the instructions that come with some (my) espresso makers tell you to apply "30-40 lbs of pressure" - I have seen other tampers where they tell you what the marks on the shaft mean. Similarly, I had no idea what the puck screen was for or how to use it until I , again, wen to the internet. Same experience for the whisk-y thing. Frustrating. The wood base is nice and keeps everything neatly organized. Overall, I would recommend, but you might have to look some things up.
