Hi, is it possible to tell what is the difference between size 1 and 5 ?

It is just the physical size. I had ordered size 1, which I use for measuring various adjustable angles of medical furniture. You should buy size 1 or 5 depending on the size of product you want to use level tool on. I believe size 5 is more suited for building/construction industry.

Would this work if hanging "inverted" (hanging under something from the magnet)?

Yes it will work hanging upside down held on by magnet
