Another New Bible Translation
Yes, it's yet another new Bible Translation, but it's actually pretty good. The margin notes are very thorough in explaining alternative renderings. The translation itself lies somewhere between literal (like the NASB) and paraphrase (like the NLT). Overall, it's a very readable translation. As I'm not a Hebrew/Greek scholar I can't tell how accurate the translation is.The quality of the paper is a little poor. It's got a soft, almost tissue like feel. And if your hands sometimes get sweaty while holding books (like mine do) you can make the paper crumple slightly. Other than that, the Bible quality (binding etc) is good and seems pretty durable.

Ultrathin Reference Bible-HCSB
A fine bible with the excellent Holman translation. I have read of one review where the thickness of the pages has been a source of problem. However, both my wife and I find no real problem with page thickness. This bible is just right to take out and about (and the topical concordance is present for reference purposed).

Another useful translation........
This is yet another useful and clear translation of the Bible. The Word of God is rich and deep and every new translation done by men of God is bound to open up something new about well known and not so well known passages from the Holy Writ. The price of this Bible is very reasonable and with free delivery it is a bargain.

Outstanding Value for the Price
I gave this a five star rating because of the following:1) For an ultrathin-style Bible, the chosen font is outstanding. It is not only easy to read but also inviting.2) The traditional vertical lines placed on both sides of the centre column cross-references have been omitted. This gives us a cleaner, less cluttered appearance.3) The red font color in the NT is an attractive darker tone - very easy on the eyes.4) The page color is an off-white, very comfortable with no eye strain.5) The leather binding is well done with a non-slip type of "finish." It will stay put in your hand.6) The only downside is that the book reference info is on the bottom of the page, but it didn't take me long to get use to this.7) The HCSB is simply the best translation I've come across. It's combination of natural English and faithfulness to the original languages is excellent. The translation footnotes plenty and extremely helpful.

The translation I chose to use.
As a pastor I am concerned about Bible translations. I have chosen to use this translation as my preaching translation due to the good easy English and accuracy.

very good.

Nice Bible
Very nice bible. The cover is soft and flexible. I got this version because it was translated by many scholars from the original text. In this edition, the bullets on the bullet words are less distracting than in previous editions, and I like that. I had a hard time finding pictures online, so I posted several.

Terrific, All Around!
I originally bought this as a Christmas present for my sister, but, after inspecting it, I had to have one! The HCSB is a great translation using modern words like "didn't," "can't," etc., and converting distances such as cubits into feet, for clarity. The footnotes are terrific, telling what other Biblical texts say or have omitted, even telling, for example, that 30 feet is 20 cubits, and the middle column is great for cross-referencing. I have found only two things that cannot really be considered faults as they are unimportant, in my view. First, unlike all my other Bibles, this one labels the book and chapter at the bottom (rather than top) of the page. This took thirty seconds to notice and get used to - no big deal. Second, with the font - I don't know what it is - lower case I's sometimes look like lower case L's. For example, Azariah seems to look like Azarlah, or Benaiah looks like Benalah, and the confusion - or my own, I should say - seems to only be in a person's name. The font's size is wonderful, however, making it very easy to read with no strain on the eyes even after an extended period of time. This is not a study Bible, so don't expect a book's introduction or long footnotes that take up three quarters of a page. Just expect a very easily read Word of God and look forward to diving right in!

Durably constructed; very readable
This is my first Holman Bible, and it is remarkably well made. The leather is good quality, and the binding is strong. The font takes some getting used to, as does the book indexes on the bottom of the pages (all of my other bibles have it on the tops of the pages) - otherwise it depends upon your preference for bible translations. I have been using the 1984 NIV, as well as the KJV, and am finding that I like this translation quite well. It was translated to use American English parlance, and for that I think it does the job. It is a translation that I think will help foster understanding when reading to my young children. It is definitely worth the purchase.

A Bible Worth Owning!!
In the past I was using strictly NIV as my preferred translation for study. Over the years I also tried different other translations such as ESV, NLT, and NKJV. I found recently that I have been using HCSB Study Bible a lot more. For some reason I can better relate to this translation than the others. In addition, I also use NASB as my secondary translation as well. The binding is one of the best I've ever owned. The leather is so nice, not flimsy at all. I bought the indexed edition, and I really love it. The quality of the paper is also very nice. The size of this bible is just nice to carry around.Overall, this is a bible that I will treasure for quiet sometime. This ultrathin deserves 5-star!!

Excellent, Inexpensive Way To Get A Readable, Useful Bible
This is, probably, one of the best editions of the Bible ever made. I haven't read it fully, but from what I have been told and read for myself, the HCSB is a very good translation of the Bible. The copy I received has a copyright date of 2012 and uses the updated HCSB of 2009.The paper is very nice, thin, but not too thin, and opaque enough to where the bleed-through is kept to a minimum. The bonded leather cover feels nice in the hand, is flexible enough, and seems like it will hold up a long time, just don't leave it in a hot car. The sans serif typeface is very nice on the eyes, particularly in this age of computers and webpages that are written in largely sans serif typefaces. The placement of the page number AND book and chapter reference at the BOTTOM of the page does take a little getting used to, but I feel like I will adapt to it very quickly. The translation notes are very useful in their presentation, for those who care about that type of thing, and the center column references seem very well done.I especially like how a book doesn't begin on the same page as another book's ending. I would have preferred all the books to begin on the right hand side page, so all began on the same side of the Bible, but in the interest of squeezing every fraction of an inch (or millimeter, if that's your way of doing things) out, I understand the need to make books begin on the first available new page and appreciate that they do begin on a new page. This Bible is also red-lettered. That is not a make or break deal for me when it comes to Bibles, but I feel it has a certain element of making the presentation feel that much nicer.Overall, if you want a Bible that is very portable, easy to read, and useful for regular, everyday reading and public, group reading as well, this is the Bible for you, of course, if you like the HCSB. I don't know so far about the taking of notes in the margins, they feel a little small, but if you are used to doing that, you may find them well spacious enough.

Need Good Eyes!
The Holman UltraThin Reference Bible: Holman Christian Standard Bible, UltraThin Reference, Burgundy Bonded Leather Like all the other reviewers have said, this translation is excellent. It's more literal than the NIV, yet more readable. You'll also find that it's a little more idiomatic than the NIV. For example, in Matthew 5:22 it reads:"But I tell you, everyone who is angry with his brother will be subject to judgment. And whoever says to his brother, 'Fool!' will be subject to the Sanhedrin. But whoever says, 'You moron!' will be subject to hellfire."Most other translations, including the NIV and the NASB, will read 'You fool!' rather than 'You moron!' Interestingly enough, the the New Living Translation (NLT) uses the word 'idiot'.Also, in Genesis story of the flood, the word 'deluge' is used . . . not 'flood.' This word choice is odd especially since the word 'deluge' is rarely used today.Aside from the HCSB being more accurate and more readable than the NIV, the translators of the HCSB chose to capitalize all pronouns referencing God and Jesus. For me, personally, this is a huge plus! I know the Greek and Hebrew manuscripts don't capitalize these words, but there are a lot of serious students as well as scholars who believe just out of respect for our Creator and His Son that this should be done. The translators of the NASB, the NKJV, and the NLT have also chosen to do this.Another big plus for this translation is that the translators have included footnotes indicating textual variances, much similar to what the translators of the NKJV have done. The book binding is very good and lays relatively flat when you open it up and lay on your desk. The paper quality is just right so that the pages don't curl up nor do see the wording on the backside of the pages. However . . . the print is very small. It has to be a 8-point font or less and the footnotes is even smaller! So, if you're an older individual like me who wears bifocals, you may have a problem here. I went ahead and ordered the large print edition.Bottom-line: This Bible is very accurate and very readable and of excellent quality. I'd give this Bible a 5-star rating except for the small print. Very fine Bible!
I have a lot of Bibles, as you have seen my reviews. I am a pastor and worship leader and I have every translation out there. My all time favorite is the HCSB. They have made some minor updates but enough that I wanted to get one that would last me a long time.I was looking at the new updated Thin-lines when I saw this listed. I read the reviews and I knew I loved the quality of the Ministers HCSB from BH Publishers. I knew they had used a very fine leather on that one so I was hoping this would be just as nice. What I got in the mail was better then expected. This leather is very nice! Very soft and supple. And the inside leather is smooth as butter as one guy said. It is very well made and will last you YEARS! The font is very easy to read and it not large print and my eyes had no problems reading it. As it was stated before, there is no concordance but when I am preaching, that is not a concern to me. The only thing I had wished they had done, is that most high in Bibles are black letter which is what I prefer. Too many times the red is faint and makes it hard to read. They however used more of a brick red color and that is easier to read. This Bible has just become my main translation and preaching Bible. I love the HCSB Translation. It is more iteral then the NIV and does not have the outdated wording like the KJV or the NKJV. There are people that love the ESV and I use that as well, but, I really do prefer the HCSB over all. And at the price, it is well worth it.

Another Classic from Holman
This is an excellent Bible - and very affordable for a Bible of such high quality.First the text: The Holman Christian Standard Bible features the reliable HCSB text. An excellent feature of this text is that it puts Old Testament quotes in bold letters in the New Testament, which reveals how prophecy was fulfilled or highlights where references to the Old Testament are quoted by NT writers. For me, this adds to the reading experience and helps connect both the Old and New Testaments.Second, the font: The font is good on the eyes. The lettering stands out well on the paper and the page presentation is clean and attractive.Third, the presentation and display on the pages: When I opened the box and saw this Bible, I was really delighted. It lives up to its name of being "Ultra Thin", but feels lovely in the hand. The Genuine Leather has a great, grainy texture with a soft shine in deep black. The pages have a very attractive gold edge.Another bonus for the Bible I bought was that it was indexed, with the Old Testament books indexed in black and the New Testament indexed in red.Overall, this Bible is lovely - a real winner. And, as I mentioned earlier in this review, to get such a high quality Bible at such an affordable price, makes it even more attractive to have and keep. Top of the Line Quality and Translation
Beautiful leather cover and binding. Nice and readable type. Convenient and unobtrusive thumb indexing. Center column references are easy to use, as are the manuscript notes, study helps, and concordance (though I do wish the concordance was even more extensive). Excellent translation of the Bible: Comfortable and accurate reading resulting in easy comprehension. Today's English using an academic sensibility mixed with everyday usage. I still turn to NKJV and ESV for literal accuracy with readability but the HCSB has joined the pack with its superb accessibilty while retaining a very close-to-literal translation. A wonderful Bible to carry and use.

Easy to read and soft leather to hold.
Easy to read as the lettering is large than most regular bibles. The cover is a soft attractive leather that is easy to hold on to. If you are looking for an easy translation this bible is for you. It has also references, which may be a little difficult to get used to at the beginning but after reading the index, they become easy and understandable.

It's okay
Note: "Indexed" means that there are colored tabs cut out of the side of the pages to mark each book. I didn't realize this, and it was not mentioned in the product description. This is the first Leather Touch bible I've looked at, and I think the binding could be a little better. When I open it up flat I can hear that the spine is a bit stiff. It would probably get better over time. Also, the center reference column does not have any lines on either side. I would prefer having lines.
