Well worth having a spare. *by M***E on August 16, 2019* Second purchase and having a spare one of these for your AC is an inexpensive nice to have. These go bad and always when it is 95* outside. Really easy to replace. Typically your compressor will try to start, you should hear the contractors click, but it does not have enough juice to crank up. The capacitor usually will swell on the top of bottom, typically flat, and that is the easy way to tell if they are bad. You must drain the stored energy from the capacitor (holding the plastic end only if a screwdriver you touch the contacts on the capacitor together, crossing all of them) before removing the connections. Also take a picture as the capacitor has specific connections that must be replicated exactly as each of the three terminals have source and target plugs. Other than that it is a simple repair and I have replaced two over the life of my ac. Second year of a new home I had the inside blower capacitor go bad. Repair guy (last time I called for this type of repair) suggested I replace the blower motor, I declined.
