Elegance of Japanese Art: Edo Rimpa Bird and Flower Painting

Such a very beautiful and inspiring book. Having been lucky enough to have had a holiday in Japan last year and seen a fair bit of Japanese art (including some of the painted screens that are shown in this book), it is wonderful to have such a well illustrated book. There are good quality colour prints of art on just about every page together with information in Japanese and English. I hope to bring a Japanese element to my paintings.

I really love this book, it has stunningly beautiful paintings in it, and some are shown two or three times, in closeup and as the whole piece. I wish some of the pieces didnt go across the page fold, as it is one of those books that won’t open out fully, and part of the design is therefore lost in the middle; apart from this obvious fault, the art is stunning, and the layout is attractive with Japanese and English text. I would have liked the book to be bigger, more inclusive and to open out properly, but the included selections of flower and tree paintings are exquisite.

The concept of the book is beautiful, but the quality of print is utterly dreadful. The picture here is supposed to be ultramarine and green on a gold background. The photo looks better than the real thing, as it gives a brightness that is lacking with the dull matte printing used.It's a beautifully put together book, but the physical production choices do not do justice to the material. The colours are so flat it is shocking, such disappointing but the book will have to be returned

A beautiful book, very nice graphic design, a real pleasure to look at. Text is in both Japanese and English.

This is by far the most beautiful art book I’ve ever bought - I look at it every day.
