The book is written chronologically but, thankfully, has a terrific index if one is seeking out the work of a particular photographer. I am a passionate devotee of photography but, having been working at my craft for less than ten years, I consider myself relatively new to the art form. This book has helped me tremendously in learning about the important historical events, inventions and the major players in the history of photography. This is that "go to" reference that will remain on my shelf for whenever I need to look up a particular photographer or genre. I highly recommend this book.
