Trace the history and evolution of photography through iconic photographs, biographies of famous photographers, and the extraordinary cameras that made it possible. From the first black and white photograph to modern digital imagery, photography has been one of the most fascinating developments in the past 200 years. This is the perfect photographic coffee table book for budding photographers, seasoned professionals and anyone fascinated by the history of photography. It includes: • Biographies of 50 famous photographers like Ansel Adams and Dorethea Lang. • The history of photography, starting from its origin in the 1800s. • Beautiful illustrations, plus many of the most iconic photos in history. • Special features that center on a single arresting photograph, including Pulitzer Prize winners. The development of photography is possibly one of the most extraordinary feats of modern technology. Photography: The Definitive Visual Guide captures the most awe-inspiring photos, people that have pushed the boundaries of this medium, and the cameras they experimented with — from the daguerreotype to digital cameras. Packed with inspiration, this photography book also takes a step away from the pure art form and highlights how this medium has influenced social and cultural change. Author Tom Ang further includes segments on special types of photography — like street photography — and special features delving into the stories behind photographic images that changed how people saw the world! Review: This will last a lifetime and will never bore you. - A marvelous visual history of photography that includes hundreds of photos from the earliest days of “The Camera” including the progression of the lens (ala Ilse Bing et al). Anyone who is interested in various aspects of photography will appreciate this for many reasons, not just the history, but also the fine reproductions. This book will be on your desk for many years. I gave it to my young artistic friend for her graduation from eighth grade, and she loved it. (It was hard for me to part with it!) Review: High Quality, Beautifully Illustrated Book and 5-stars to Seller - I ordered this book for my father-in-law as a birthday gift. The book arrived much sooner than expected (which was great for me since I'm a bit of a procrastinator and usually end up sending "belated" Bday gifts). The seller (Titanic Treasures) included a handwritten note with contact info in case, for any reason, I wasn't completely happy with my purchase. I appreciate that, but won't be needing it because the book was exactly as described: "Gift Quality... Pristine Dust Jacket Protected..." It was absolutely beautiful!! (I don't think I've ever been so excited about a book purchase)! I was proud to gift this book and will definitely do business with this seller again if a future opportunity presents itself.

Fantastic Reference
What I like so much about this book is that Mr. Ang has hit upon the moments of the craft/artform, the pioneering photographers and artists, their perspectives and how all of this relates to history in a clear and concise manner. The book is written chronologically but, thankfully, has a terrific index if one is seeking out the work of a particular photographer. I am a passionate devotee of photography but, having been working at my craft for less than ten years, I consider myself relatively new to the art form. This book has helped me tremendously in learning about the important historical events, inventions and the major players in the history of photography. This is that "go to" reference that will remain on my shelf for whenever I need to look up a particular photographer or genre. I highly recommend this book. Well done, Mr. Ang!

A gift to myself - excellent!
I saw this on a coffee table at the dentist office and once I opened it, I found it difficult to stop reading. Insightful and so well researched. Excellent illustrations to clarify the points being made. Not just a historical reference book, it is inspiring and enjoyable.

Best history of Photography!
I am a new photographer at age 78. I tote this (big and heavy) book around from restaurant to restaurant, morning after morning, reading a few more pages and studying the great pictures. To put it succinctly, it stokes my imagination and my desire to just get out there and take pictures!

Excellent gift idea!
Beautiful hard cover with glossy pages-nice balance between text and photos. This is a book that is both enjoyable to flip through as well as settle in to read a bit.

Produit usagé
J'ai payé pour un produit neuf mais j'ai reçu un produit d'occasion. C'est vrai que le contenu ne change rien, cependant j'ai payé le prix d'un produit neufs quand même

A definitive visual treat
Outstanding and a areal treasure trove of photographic history and knowledge. A massive book weighing heavily but, worth all that trouble. Only this DK publication has 480 pages whereas, the other publications have lesser pages?! Perhaps, the only book that contains so much details and large size photographs and many not seen before! A life time of reference book It must certainly adorn the book shelf of every living photographer.

Excelente
