STLFLX - MetGUARDZ™ Metatarsal Guard for Safety Boots and Shoes

These are my petty answer when my boss told me I had to get rid of my composite work boots and go buy awful redwing boots that had the same guards. Just an FYI, I hate Redwing boots they destroyed my feet and I found out why is because they have composite or metal on the inside of the soul for insulation for electricians which destroy the bottom of my feet.

Ranch/farm hand here. Haven't had any foot crushing opportunities to test them, yet, but I've been wearing them daily at work for several months now. I never had them come unhinged, like some reviewers say. My only complaint is that no one makes work gear for women, the predrilled holes are too wide for anything smaller than a W11/M9-ish boot. Had to rig them with cable and locking biners to keep them close fitting and stable. Frustrating. I wish they were a more universal fit, but at least any of my boots have met guards now! (Try finding good work boots for women 🙄 these open up a LOT of options) Pluses, they keep grit and water out of my laces, light weight.

I bought these STLFLX METGUARDZ for my Keen Tuscan soft toe boots because the boots are very comfortable and my job requires foot protection. Reading some of the reviews I was a little apprehensive but that completely went away the 1st 10 hour day I wore them. These STLFLX MATGUARDZ stayed on all day. They stayed in place and they never “flopped” around. They never got in the way at all. They never came apart like someone reviewed earlier stated. They are not radically noticeable which is another thing I like. They are a good purchase.

I am on my second pair of these. We are required to have metatarsal protection for work but they don't make them in orthopedic shoes. These are probably better than the ones built into boots. They can catch on my steel toes. I just put a 3/4" rubber hose over the laces to force them forward. It worked great.

The first big thing I noticed about these protectors are that they basically thick, hard plastic. I think they are perhaps better for deflecting objects off them and down onto the boots you would be wearing (which I would presume would be steel-toed). I certainly wouldn't want them to take the brunt of a blow to my feet. The ridged designs in the plastic on the lower half of the protector, though, seem to suggest the designers don't want objects coming into contact with the protector to slide off onto the toes. I suppose they would be quite good for protecting from impacts of lighter objects but if you are like me where you work in an environment where objects can weigh hundreds to thousands of pounds, I doubt the strength of thick, hard plastic protectors to protect my metatarsals. I have noticed some people have made the complaint the middle hinge connecting the two pieces of the protector sometimes comes undone. This hasn't happened to me but it seems this is more a concern if your boots are fairly flexible (in the area underneath the protectors) and you haven't adequately secured the protector to your shoe laces. These protectors could be problematic for some people. The protectors are secured to the boot with the use of your shoelaces in only two places: at the very top and the very bottom. This is both a good and bad thing, as I have observed. This leaves the underside of the protector free-floating through the entirety of the middle section. This allows for some degree of flexibility of the laces and the boot which might be otherwise restricted, being suffocatingly bound to the protector. The downside is that the protector will move around in ways you do not intend and do not want unless you ensure your laces are quite tightly wound. What I don't like there is that when I have to tighten my laces too tightly, it constricts the movement of my feet in the boot (making for much sorer feet at the end of the day). This may or may not be an issue for you but it is something to consider when considering whether protectors like these are worth buying.

Absolutely loving them so far! They make an annoying clicking sound but they protect my meet and I wear earplugs at work anyways so its not my problem! Might even buy a second pair and spray paint em for my new work boots

This product won't stay on the boot when you tighten the laces, because the lace holes are located at the midsection, not the ends. As a result you get this flopping item that doesn't like to stay in place and as you might expect easily get snagged when it catches onto anything. It is actually worse if you try to use the holes located at the edge of the protector, because they too are located too far up the boot, the entire product will stand up because the point of contact is not at closer to your toe section. My suggestion for a potential Gen. II version: make a ridged channel for the laces to connected at the top and bottom of the protectors, to prevent the product from standing up clamshell-style. Until then, awful design, do not recommend.

These have saved my top feets so many times. Best for medium debris & also protects the shoe & laces. I do not recommend for anything like a maxhine or welding shop, but other labour tasks these are great gear to have.

The hinging part locks up sometimes, it’s not reliable. To prevent my shin from sometimes running into the top part of the METGUARD, I have to attach the METGUARD low on my shoe, lower than the seller’s images. It wasn’t quite the metatarsal coverage I expected. The seller’s images don’t accurately reflect how it attaches on a shoe. Only using the top clip causes it to flop around while walking, so I had to lace my shoes intertwining with the guard to keep the METGUARD stable. It wouldn’t work with laceless shoes (slip ons, velcro etc) Otherwise a good product
