Still Reading It. Read it!
Good information although I am still reading it. Also reading Overcoming Thyroid Disorders by David Brownstein. Opened my eyes to a lot of what is going on with me. Now, if I can just find a doctor who will listen to me.4/30/15...Now that I have gone through the book I found it very helpful in being able to talk to my endocrinologist about what was going on with me. The other book, "Overcoming Thyroid Disorders" by David Brownstein was even more informative. All of your glandular systems work together. One of the major things that helped me was instead of taking my hormone pill orally I talked to my gynecologist about putting me on a patch. What a HUGE difference that made in my physical well being. I learned A LOT from these 2 books. Would not have known much about my condition without reading them.

pretty good book
I have hypothyroidism and I have been on synthroid for about 5 years. All I have done is put on weight since starting the medicine. Sometimes I wish I had never got my thyroid tested. I still fill like crap all the time even though i have had the medicine mg adjusted and the blood work says my thyroid levels are normal. I was beginning to think this is the way my life was going to be until I took it upon myself to start reading more about hypothyroidism. Like other posts, my doctor never explained to me what I should be doing, what I should be eating, etc. With that being said, this book has opened up my eyes on what condition I am really dealing with.I also want to ask, has anyone used the Thyro Complex by Matt Burton that the author mentions in this book? And if you have, did you notice a difference in yourself?Thank you!

Get to know your thyroid
My body did not come with an owner's manual, and so any book that addresses a gland as important as the thyroid is a godsend. I do not suffer from any thyroid issues, which is largely due to a fairly balanced lifestyle that's relatively free of substances such as nicotine and caffeine as well as unnecessary stress. But that doesn't mean I can afford to be ignorant about the inner workings of my body. So I found this book very educational. If anything, it inspires me even more to keeping making the kind of lifestyle choices that do not upset my thyroid or throw it out of balance. All said and done, health is largely about balance, which stems from AWARENESS. And this book has done just that for me. It's made me more aware.

Skip this one
Pages 11-55 contain information about the thyroid, issues and very basic treatment that you've already seen in your Google and Pinterest searches. If you're pre-diagnosis, or researching because of a loved one, I would suggest browsing through books at the library that consist of more thorough content. This is basically a chunky brochure. The recipes included, as well as the meal plans, contain ingredients that are known thyroid function disruptors. Many also have ingredients that can cause flare ups for those with autoimmune issues (such as Hashimoto's). Skip it.

I've been trying to lose that last ten pounds for a while, It's not just a female thing, guys want to look desireable to their mates as well. I've beeen working out diligently for months, I've talen off 30 pounds, but that last 10 is a bear. When I read this book, it told me that my problem was my metabolism, and to augment my diet. I applied the elements of this glorious guide, and realized I was just spinning my wheels if I didn't put the proper fuel in my tank. Working out 5 days a week means nothing unless your metabolism kicks in. Good information. My last ten pounds has a price on its head now.

Very educational
This book was very informative on thyroid issues and how to mitigate hypothyroidism. It had a lot of natural remedy ideas that are worth considering. There is a lot of recipes included in the book that seemed really good. The "Detox Gumbo" recipe sounded appetizing (certainly more appetizing than the name of it!). There were also some protein shake recipes that sounded really good and I'd like to try. The book itself is well written and a fairly quick read... I read it in about an hour's time, but it covers pretty much anything you might be wondering about the topic. Definitely worth reading.

Not impressed
I have had a low thyroid problem for many years now and I would not recommend this book at all. There are others around with much more reliable information in them. The authors contradict themselves - in the recipes they use Soy and earlier in the book they say this is not a good idea - and that's just one example!! Soy is not usually recommended for Hypothyroidism because - if I remember correctly - it interferes with the uptake of iodine, which is essential for the healthy function of the thyroid. Another point to take into account is that it is documented that about 98% of the world's Soy is GM and most of it comes into the country from America. If you want a reliable book on hypothyroidism it's a good idea to search websites such as Thyroid UK etc and look at their reading lists. I bought this book because I was interested in the recipes - I always struggle with this aspect - but in view of the information given I decided not to try them. It is worth researching the hypothyroid diet because there are various vegetables, fruits and also nuts which are better left alone due to their action on the thyroid, but you need to find a book, or information, you can trust.

What have I got to lose?
This is an interesting concept to alternatives to a very common problem particularly in women of a certain age group. Hypothyroidism is treated by a hormone replacement but has many side effects left untreated. Worth trying the suggestions so as to reduce the medication or at least reverse some of the unpleasant side effects of this condition.

Useful and informative
I bought this book to find out more about this condition before speaking to my doctor and was quite shocked to find that a lot of foods in my so called healthy diet could actually be effecting my health. As a woman in my 40s I can relate to having a list of vague symptoms that often are dismissed or minimised by doctors. If you want to learn more about hypothyroidism buy this book.
