Ian Berry; Living Apart: South Africa under apartheid
P**K
A witness to history
Ian Berry is one of those photographers whose eye is so sharp and instinct for telling details is so acute that it is hard to imagine changing a single element within his extraordinary, evocative photographs. This wonderful book, documenting apartheid and post-apartheid South Africa, is a valuable record of a shameful period of history and the potential for people to make positive change.

A piece of 20th Century history we should all consider
Ian Berry is one of those modest and unassuming men who flit like mist through the woods and in so doing becomes witness to the unexcusable. His collection of photographs is monumental in bredth and depth, he provides a visual commentary for a tumultous 30 plus year period, one that marked a turning point in world affairs. His clarity of vision and the way he structures his photographs provide a masterclass for aspiring photographers. Ian Berry has been a member of Magnum Photos since 1962 and travelled the world on their behalf. A witness to the horrors of the Congo, the Russian invasion of Czechoslovakia, the Ethiopian famine and other world flash points he brings to all his work a considered eye, a clarity of vision and a rare compassion. Look into his canon of work and become a part of a honest man's attempt to make sense of how the world ticks.

Great book, poorly packed
Great book by a great photographer.Slightly underpacked (just a padded envelope) and consequently arrived with bent corners - a bit disappointing.
