A: The pin is for impacts that don't have a depression pin that keeps the socket on the impact. If your impact just has a hole in the square, you will need the pin to keep the socket on. But most impacts have a pressure pin or and ball bearing looking thing.

I recently bought a 1.2 inch heavy duty impact to deal with the lug nuts on my car, but I also needed to drill something for a little project I had going on. I didn't feel like buying a whole separate weaker drill driver, so I chose instead to buy this adapter and some titanium drill bits.Turned out to be a great choice. This adapter (comes with 2 of them) is very high quality, has the locking metal with the o-ring and indentation to keep it from coming off the impact. I was able to use it with the 1.4 inch drill bit I needed, and it worked flawlessly.If you have an impact with a 1.2 inch connector, you got to get one of these. That way, you won't need a smaller impact either, saving you money and making tasks easier. Highly recommend.

    I used this for a brake job on my personal car. Usually I just an old fashioned impact driver and a hammer to get these screws out but this thing saves me time. It got my rotor screws out without even needing to use the hammers in the impact wrench. Overall I'm happy with it, for the price you pay you get 2 of them so it's worth the money. The quality isn't the best but at ~$4-5  each there isn't much to complain about.
