INCREDIBLE FUNCTION & QUALITY FOR $40!
I haven't read all 287 reviews but if I'm repeating someone, I apologize. About 5-years ago, I started my search for a collapsible, travel rod that was very close in quality/function to a 2-piece or 1-piece boat rod. Most travel rods at the time we like toys you would buy for your 7-year old. About 2-years ago I searched Amazon and settled on the Kastking. Now I noticed that my Kastking looks identical to the Sougayilang so I don't know if they're the same company or one makes the rod for another? These rods work so well, I'm now in the market for a spare. However, the Kastking is currently, out-of-stock. Enter the Sougayilang. By all accounts, the Kastking & Sougayilang appear to be the same rods - and now my review: I've been an avid fisherman, spear fisherman and bottom fisherman in Hawaii for over 40-years. I own a boat and have used just about every expensive/inexpensive brand rod out there. But when I'm not fishing from my boat, I just love to throw a rod and reel in my truck, drive to the West shore and "whip" for papio or juvenile trevali. Prior to the Kastking, my FAV papio pole was an 8' Shimano, one-piece so I made a holder on the roof of my truck out of ABS plastic pipe. No problems here except having to mount & remove it. Then about 2-years ago I started using my 9.84' Kastking for the same purpose and I can tell you, while not an equal to my $125 Shimano, it comes really close at about $90 cheaper! After 2 years of hard weekend use, here are my observations: PROS: - Collapsible, collapsible, collapsible.....Nice!!! Super-convenient & easy to transport. I put mine in your typical laundry basket along with my other fishing gear, towels and throw it in the bed or cab of my truck. You can throw it in you duffle too! I store it collapsed in my house until the next outing. Gone are the days of banged rod tips as you move the pole through your house for storage! - Heavy Duty. This is not a toy but a well-made, solid, functional fishing rod intended for the purpose of "serious" fishing. - Reel seats do not come loose and feel just as solid as your typical $150 Shimano boat rod. In fact, the overall feel of the rod is solid. - Reel Frame is also solid/robust and made of metal/aluminum. - Sections are made of carbon fiber. - Foam grip on the bottom of the handle is just as good as any expensive boat rod out there. - Powder-coated aluminum, threaded cap at the bottom can be removed for internal rinsing or section removal/replacement. - Guides are Ceramic CONS: - Guide Frames seem a little bulky and about mid-range quality. CAUTION: DO NOT twist the smaller guides to release/collapse a section. If you expanded a section too tightly, twisting the guide to collapse it will break the guide free from the extension. I speak from experience. However, if you make the same mistake as I, a little superglue fixes the issue promptly. - Expanding each section before prior to fishing requires time to get each guide into straight alignment. I haven't tried it but hear some folks make small alignment marks w/ a permanent marker? - Expanding each section too tightly will almost "lock" the section in place and your chance of breaking the section (especially the top 2 sections) is great as you try to collapse them. CAUTION: Ensure you expand each section just "snuggly", NOT "tightly". I found that even if the sections twist from the torque of a cast, it is very easy to reach up and get it back in alignment. AVOID tightly "locking" a section into its fully extended position! "Snug" is the key! CONCLUSION: It is very hard to believe you can get this type of fit and function for under $50 bucks! I believe somebody like Bass Pro would easily sell this rod for over $100 (because it feels like a $100 rod). Add in the convenience of collapsibility and you have a winner of a fishing rod. The rod has performed so well over the past 2-years with only a broken tip (my fault) and a loosened guide (again, my fault), that I am purchasing 2 more for spares. Bottom line is you get INCREDIBLE FUNCTION & QUALITY FOR $40!

Great Travel Rod
I had taken my first one the last 3 years to Florida to fish from the shoreline. Never had any major issues, one eyelet did come loose, but a quick repair with glue and I was good to go. I decided to order a second one to have two poles for fishing. They are small enough to fit into my carry on. At 11 ft long they work perfect for me. Still trying to catch something big enough to break it. We usually catch pompano, whiting and catfish from the shoreline. Not sure how it will do vs a shark or skate. Hopefully find out this year.

Not durable
This rod worked well at first, and I really loved the portability of it when collapsed (hence the 2 stars instead of 1), but only after a few uses through one year, the tip broke completely off during light use. The piece that holds the reel in place would also come loose often during fishing, having to constantly tighten it. Would not recommend. I will be picking up a more traditional rod next. Update (8/19/2018): I contacted the seller and since I was within the 1 year warranty period they sent me a new one. Upgraded to 4 stars given the customer service. Will see how this one lasts.

Since I can't give negative stars to cheap Chinesium.
I bought this product in 2018, wasn't able to test it until today, so I'm well out of warranty. The rod seemed good. Light weight, collapsible, something I could readily throw in a bug out bag. Of course nothing goes into, or stays, in the bag without testing. My buddy called me up today wanting to go fishing, I had a reel and rod in need of testing. Sadly the reel (also by Sougayilang, and recommended to match this rod, it's the black and gold one), has four broken teeth on the main gear (from the factory), which my buddy discovered and is going to try to replace. We ran over to Wally world where I picked up a Pflueger President spinning reel to replace the broken reel. This should have given me pause for thought, but testing must go on. We overloaded the President with 10 lbs. test monofilament and headed to the pier. After dealing with tangles, other people's kids, and more tangles I managed to get the hook in the water three times. Not five or six times, three times. Lost bait once, reeled in once when I thought I had a bite, and the last time when I did have a "bite." The bite in question was about five pounds of seaweed. Seaweed half-way to the pier and still fully in the water, I feel a change in the rod and hear a puffing crack sound. I looked up to see my rod bend to a 90 degree angle and then finish tearing itself apart. The result is as pictured. As my friend cried and laughed at me, I pulled the President off the rod, put the rod in the garbage and packed up to go home. I'll be looking for another telescoping rod, but it won't be from Sougayilang. As it stands the main issue with the rod is a manufacturing defect. The carbon fiber has been treated like fiberglass rather than like carbon fiber. This makes it susceptible to shearing forces, which are largely what are encountered in fishing, rather than end force forces which the current layout of the rod is better suited to handle. Read this as: bendy rod bad, pokey rod good.

Great for travel
Iโm very impressed with this rod and reel combo, I expected it to break and be worthless by now. Iโve had it for many years now and itโs still going strong. The reel action is very smooth. I took it to Canada this summer and caught some bass and crappie with it. I gave it 5 stars and have recommended it to my brother as well. Itโs easy to set up, takes braided line very easily, and has handled the light amount of fishing I have done with it both in salt water and in fresh. I purchased the 5.9ft rod specifically for the ease of traveling with it and it has worked out well for me. Though, I think I could have gotten the bigger one and still been ok traveling with it.

Rod snapped while casting
Took it for my first fishing trip really loved the portability and lightweight feel of the rod and felt. After half the day almost my final cast the rod snapped almost a third of the way to the tip. Surf fishing for about 5 hours with a 2oz flat weight then switched to the 3oz for about 20 minutes before it snapped while casting! Damn rod is specced for 3 oz weights but I was weary not knowing the brand, very disappointed this rod did not hold up to its specs. Iโll be returning this rod and purchasing an extra expensive battle tested rod in the future I canโt be worried about my rod snapping while fishing. UPDATE: This is a great rod. Been using it regularly surf and jetty fishing. I exceeded the weight limit for sinkers, pretty sure thatโs why it snapped. Use according to specs and youโll be fine.

Fantastic Rod, Would recommend this to ANY REAL FISHERS!
I ordered the two.1 meter rod for a medium measurement bass and crappie rod. It has greater than exceeded my expectations typically. It casts weightless delicate plastics very effectively. I paired it with a Quantum Fishing Hellcat Eight-bearing spinning reel. I've caught a number of bass on it already and the rod does simply high quality. My final telescopic pole I had, the reel seat got here free now and again. I must re-tighten it a number of occasions throughout a fishing journey. This one sits nice with no motion the best way it ought to. Apart from than the usefulness far exceeds the value. Tremendous gentle, tremendous compact, very usable for what it's. I do not count on this to land a 30lb fish however its prefect for touring when you find yourself low on area. My different extra excessive finish rods do not simply match into my automotive and this factor matches wherever together with my backpack if I wanna bike out to the lake. General, I'm very impressed and excited to personal this good rod. I love the telescopic pole as it don't take up too ...
I love the telescopic pole as it don't take up too much room in my car. I drive a small sedan so smaller form factor is a big plus for me. The balance of the pole is very precise. With the same brand reel I brought installed, the weight distribution is even when you hold the pole with your index finger right on top of the reel which allows you to really feel the fish when you reel them in and I feel less fatigue when used over a long period of time. The look of the pole is another, it has a really nice finishing touch and the feel of the pole on my hand is superb. The pole and the reel together is very light weight. The pole it self is stiff which is good for bait casting to make the lure of your choice come alive in the water. The best part of my experience is that I can through this rod and reel in my back pack when I go fishing. Not having to hold alot of stuffs on my hand was very nice.

garbage
I bought this rod for travel. I know telescopic rods are not as good, but this rod broke at the fourth guide on a small strike from a small fish. I am on holidays and will not be able to return this very poor product.I have used other telescopic rods, they have broken but from big fish. This rod is garbage.

One of the guides came off...straight out of the box
After my first examining of the rod when it arrived one of the guides (second from the reel) came off as i retracted the rod; all the sections collapsed into each other fine but thats where the problem occured...as the third section collapsed into the second the ring guide from the second came off its glue. Now its just hanging loose. Not quality epoxy glue or not enough? Had high hopes for this brand. A little bit disappointed. But I used the rod today works fine but its gonna cost me extra now i have to glue the ring back into place.

So so.
So far seems to be acceptable quality, though lack of attention to details (some cosmetic parts got loose after only few uses).
