I cannot say enough good things about this dog food. My 7 month old puppy went through several dog food brands before we found this one. The worst experience we had was with Blue Buffalo Wilderness puppy food, which was an absolute nightmare. After speaking with other dog owners, it seems we are not the only ones to have issues with that brand (but if it works for your dog, stick with it. Not all dogs have the same biology when it comes to food). After that bad experience, I searched the internet for advice on the healthiest food for my puppy. After checking out ConsumerAffairs.com (highly recommend this site. You'll be surprised how many bad dog foods are out there), and reading several articles, I found Candidae. This particular formula has only 9 ingredients, all of which I recognize, and my puppy has had solid stool ever since we started him on it 2 months ago. Even my husband (a skeptic who wanted to stick with the cheaper puppy chow) has commented numerous times on how vibrant and shiny our puppy's fur is now. Very, very happy with this dog food. I highly recommend it.

Pups love it! Switched to this product after trying a couple of others that didn't work out for various reasons. My pups (small breed, less than 10 lbs) did have a harder time adjusting to this brand than others, so I'd recommend a very slow transition (more than 2 weeks) but it was completely worth it. Doesn't have a strong dog food smell, our 9 month old puppies don't need a large amount to fill them up and their coats and energy levels are wonderful. They love it enough that I can use the kibble pieces as treats during training session (I don't free feed, we have set windows of time for eating). For us, it's worth the extra price, but 1 of the largest bags lasts 2-3 months, so we don't have to purchase that often. It would be quite expensive for a larger breed dog, but if you're more discerning about what you feed your dog be sure to give this a shot.

Our Labrador Retriever came from a rough start- breeder delivered Guido to us just shy of 8wks, covered in fleas, diagnosed with mange and giardia! We started him on the "best" Raleys had to offer for kibble but felt we needed to up his immunity and after lots of research I found Canidae. I loved their story of how the business was being run and now they are even taking the first steps to grow their own ingredients! We started with All Stages Puppy formula but that didn't sit quite right with his digestive system. I called the company and Beth was so fantastic! She wanted to know his story to help me determine which kibble would work best. She sent express mail a huge bag of Grain Free Pure Limited Ingredient Puppy formula at NO cost!! Wow, you don't get that kind of customer service very often! Beth then followed up over the course of about a month via email to ensure Guido and I were doing well on this formula. I also use a portion of his allotment as training treats and he is responding so well! We also like the Bakery Snacks- break them in half as reward for his instant recall to my whistle. I love Guido and I love Canidae!!

Upon delving in to many different pet food options in search for a healthy diet for my Australian Shepherd puppies I found Canidae. It was one of the few foods that I could not find negative information on. It is a very healthy grain free product. One of my puppies absolutely loves it; however, one is a bit picky and plays with the food quite a bit. Overall I love the product, the only reason for the four stars instead of five is due to the fact that I believe the flavor (aroma) could be improved upon for the dogs.

Definitely would recommend this product. If you have bulldogs, you know bulldogs cannot eat poultry because of the issues that bulldogs have where they have skin conditions and intestinal issues so I have two old English bulldogs that are not allowed to eat poultry per the dog breeders so when I found, this dog food I was very content with it even though right now they’re not puppies anymore for what you spend on this it’s a lot less than going to Petsmart or Petco. The dogs love it definitely would recommend this product.

Our five-month-old English setter had been a picky eater ever since we brought him home. On his old food, we had to mix in pumpkin or boiled chicken and stand over him to make sure he ate. Then, he developed persistent diarrhea. Three vet visits and two rounds of antibiotics later, we concluded he had a food sensitivity. We switched him to Canidae and it was a MIRACLE. He wolfs this stuff down, without anything mixed in; he even licks the bowl when it’s gone! No more digestive problems at all. He is growing more rapidly, hair feels so soft. We are SO glad we found this food. If your puppy has been showing signs of a sensitive tummy, please give this a try!

I have a GSD who has SIBO. We have tried almost all the top rated brands of dog food looking for a dog food that would correct the problem. I even tried home made which worked the best and I still give him raw meaty bones with Canidae, however the work it took to prepare his meals was overwhelming. We tried Natural Balance because of the Limited ingredients but his coat was like straw and he was itching terrible. I then ordered Canidae online because the store where we shop did not carry the Pure Foundations. My dog's coat is now soft and shiny but he is still itching a little. Since my dog is a puppy I need to keep him on this food a couple more months before I can switch him to the sweet potato formula that Canidae sells. I'm hoping this will help with the itchy skin since he did the best when I fed him sweet potatoes in his home cooked meals. My dog is on pumpkin, antibiotic, prebiotics, probiotics, and fish oil capsules. I hope the adult food will lessen the need for all the supplement. For now his coat feels so nice from the Canidae and his symptoms are manageable with the supplements. Update: This food is getting too expensive so I am now mixing it with another brand of dog food and have switched from Canidae Pure Foundation to Canidae Salmon and Sweet Potato and my puppy still has nice shinny coat.

pros - kibble texture helps encourage my pup to chew - can feed her less - no adverse effect as had with blue buffalo - her stool is firm - no longer need to buy treats, just use a handful of this stuff cons - food smells like a rotting carcass (I have it in an airtight container now, thanks to IRIS) - when my pup farts it smells like a rotting carcass (put an air purifier next to her bed with a charcoal filter, still gross) - bag material split open down the center and spilled everywhere after opening the box from amazon. my dog did not feel this was a problem
