this pencil has gotten me thru some tough work -----
i just recieved back surgery for spondylolasthesis... painful, and i have been out of school for a month. i received a gift card from family for amazon and looked for a nice mechanical pencil and pen to help me through the strenuous make up work i had ahead of me. i chose this wonderful pencil... which yes, does have an eraser (take the cap off the point end and replace it on the other side. then, take off the little metal cap that you click to advance the lead... there it is)which i don't use because it is small and i don't want to buy replacements. i use a "Faber Castell DUST-FREE 18 71 20 Clean and Soft Erasing" as an eraser for the KERRY pencil. for lead, i recomend using "Pentel super hi-polymer leads. i chose the 0.7mm version out of pure preferance... i write with heavy hands and require thick lead sizes (i haven't broken any lead yet... AMAZING for me). i have no complaints with this pencil, in fact i love everything about it, the way the cap recaps on the other side and adds the perfect balance while writing, the look of the grille and metallic black finish (its survived many drops... not even a scratch), and most of all how smooth/comfortably it writes which is important when you have hours and hours of tutors, make up work, and even pleasure writing ahead of you (its best use). i deeply thank pentel and all of its manufacturors as well as goldenflyfisher (my shipper)for this (yet another) wonderful product by pentel. if any-one has any question about this pencil leave it in as a review for this item... i will check daily and get back to you (i have little - no doubt that you love this pencil). p.s. the pen i chose (5 stars... two thumbs up) is the "Pilot Varsity disposable fountain pen - black ink"

UNPARALLELED UTILITY AND QUALITY
This is not only a comfortable mechanical pencil but also a very durable one with a high-quality build and perfect weight-size ratio. Great piece of engineering has gone to the eraser build. Pencil lead hardly ever breaks. Has a very smooth feel not found on pencils in general. However, goes through the lead a bit faster than ordinary 0.7 mm mechanical pencils. Enables the writer to write calculations and print in a clear and organized way, with a bold touch. This probably is the best 0.7mm pencil on the market in my view and its function surpasses its price.A very good deal. Update: This mechanical pencil handles severe shock from dropping. More importantly, if the cap is on one notices that it will almost always fall on its side thereby landing flat on the metal side. Damage is minimal, not even a scratch from my droppings. If this center of gravity balancing was of deliberate design, the engineers are geniouses. Update 2: It seems the only reason one would have to buy this pencil again is when losing it. Thus I have bought a few when I lost one in some way. I can say my pencils have been dropped and machine washed in the past accidentally only to look exactly the same as new ones in pictures. Amazing workmanship.

Perfect Pencil
This pencil is probably the best ~13 bucks I ever spent. I love everything about this pencil. The sleeve (little metal bit at the tip) is the perfect size: long enough to use as a basic drafting pencil if necessary, but not too long that the lead loses its integrity when writing quickly. So its good for both writing and drafting :D It's also pocket safe; the cap snaps snugly over the fixed sleeve. The lead-tube is metal and wide enough to hold a lot of lead at a time. If I remember correctly, it comes with 6 sticks of lead already inside. The only potential problem I see with the length of the lead-tube is that sometimes larger leads won't fit all the way into the tube because it is relatively shorter than most pencils. But that isn't too much of a worry; pentel lead @ 60 mm fits in perfectly. I like to use Pentel HB lead in my pencil; the pencil just seems made for using Pentel lead. I got the .7mm rather than the .5mm really as a matter of preference. I have a really heavy hand when I write, so I have to use at least .7mm lead. But despite the pressure I apply when writing, I haven't experienced any lead breaks with this pencil (which is AMAZING, especially because I've gone through about 30 sticks of lead so far). Some common, and valid complaints include an eraser that's too small and not using all of the lead. I got around the small eraser by making fewer mistakes and carrying around a Staedtler Mars Plastic eraser. As for lead, there's some ebay folks who sell legitimate Pentel lead at very decent prices. You can try to buy bulk lead on Amazon, but just make sure that the seller doesn't charge shipping for each pack of lead. The chrome grille looks pretty bitchin' too.

Love this great pencil...no doubt, with a small but...
Saw that art teacher Lee Hammond uses this and swears by it so though I have other mech pencils (3 Alivin DraftMatics) I decided to check it out. Less than 8 hours in, I can see what all the fuss is about. It's pretty spiffy all the way around. Love the cap to protect the point, and the feel especially. A few things, though- It doesn't come with instructions. Nothing on their www site that I could find either. If you want to know how to change the leads, where to find the eraser, and even how to work it, this is one case where reading the questions and the reviews here will help you. You get the pencil in a plastic box with a clear cover. It comes with the infamous small eraser and 4? leads installed. Not sure if they're HB or 2B. That's it. Still, would it have killed them to put a few instructions in with it, instead of making customers search through the hundreds of reviews to find answers? I could have docked them a star for this, but it is a stellar item. Also, a reviewer said to beware of a change in quality. It seems pretty high quality to me thus far. I will watch out for the advance getting loose though. Since it's a pencil geared for pros, I'm a bit surprised it doesn't come in more sizes that .05 and .07. I'll have to stick with my DraftMatics for those. Also, one thing on the DraftMatics that might have been nice to have is the lead indicator which you can rotate to indicate which kind of lead you have installed. It's on the outside of the DM and would diminish from the style of the Kerry, but perhaps on the inner lead tube...? Other than that? I'm keeping it. And, probably keeping it on me at all times, since it has the great cap, with the Click!

Pretty Good
The giftbox is trash, but the pencil is good. The following review is a feature by feature analysis of this pencil. The pencil grip is very slick, when I pull my hand up from writing it would slip out of my hand because perspiration really slickens the grip. I solved this by taking a knife and perpendicularly to the pen scraped the grip from the metal piece in the center to the metal screw on tip (remember to remove the screw on tip and guts first so not to nick it) all the way around. The plastic is high quality and the scrape made a nice pattern and looks great and grips very well. The pocket clip is great, it is strong, yet not too tight so it doesn't have any trouble sliding onto pockets or in slots. It has a cool feature where when you pull off the cap, it is very hard to remove the eraser cap, but when you snap on the cap to the back of the pencil the eraser cap pops out to a position where you can remove it. The only problem with this is you can't push the cap on with your thumb on the back because it won't snap on without advancing the lead, so you have to grip the sides with your fingers and push it on. This is kind of disappointing because I like to push a cap on by its end with my thumb. To fix this, Pentel needs to insert a soft spring in the eraser cap advancing mechanism so that soft spring absorbs the pressure from the thumb when inserting the cap so the lead advancing mechanism doesn't get pushed when it is snapped into place. When the cap snaps on and the persons thumb is released, the cap would advance up to the ready position. When the cap is snapped on the back or the front of the pencil and you twist it, it gives kind of a scraping feeling which is unpleasant. This shouldn't be too difficult to fix by the manufacturer. Also, most will want to write with the cap on the back because like another reviewer said the pencil itself is very small, but with the cap snapped on the back it is a normal length. With the cap on the back, it feels like the pencil wants to push forward in my hand a bit, I think that's because the cap on the back of the pencil rests on your hand and is very slick and the pencil has some weight. The pencil's center of balance is right in the center which is right where the cap meets the pencil. This is one quality built pencil, the mechanism and materials are the best I've ever seen used in a pencil. I would recommend this pencil to most people.

Superb mechanical pencil
Bought this for my kid and it helps make homework time less arduous. Extremely well made solid build satisfying clicking sounds when you put the cap on.

Nice looking upgrade mechanical pencil.
I was looking for an inexpensive and better looking version of the Pentels I used in engineering many years ago. This pencil really fits the bill. At just under 5” in length it fits inconspicuously in a breast pocket and looks a lot better than the old blue plastic versions. Even the replacement erasers I had in my drawer fit. The only downside is the round grip is different than the old ones, but after use I no longer feel it is uncomfortable. At this price point, I don’t think I could find a better solution.

The perfect mechanical pencil
Perfect design. I discovered these maybe 20 years ago and I have never wanted for another mechanical pencil. Unless you have some sort of specialty needs in a pencil, you are probably going to be happy with this purchase. Quality product at a reasonable price. Does everything you want a pencil to do and also stows nicely and on top of that it looks classy. If you lose it, no big deal, they're $15. If you don't lose it, it'll probably last the rest of your life.

Fantastic Mechanical Pencil
Finishing is excellent and the lead is of superior quality. It looks like a fountain pen and can be clipped to your pocket. When the cap is posted on to the barrel, it gives excellent balance and weight. I simply love this mechanical pencil.

What if I told you that you don't need to break leads ?
This is not a fancy pencil but it is well made - the mechanism works very well and they last for years. I have a few pencils but the Kerry is my favourite - I love the cap and that it works with or without - great design. I do wish there was a version of these that were thicker and longer for those of us with big paws but not stabbing yourself / puncturing your shirts / dinging up the tip is golden. I have used 0.5mm pencils for decades and as I have gotten older I have moved to 4B leads which end up looking pretty close to fountain pen, such is the deliciousness of the blackness... The problem is that 4B is very snappy so I thought I would try 0.7mm. I am using 2B because no-one makes 0.7mm 4B but it doesn't matter - the 0.7mm / 2B combo is highly visible and snappy is gone. Children, do not do as I have done and snap your lives away - let 0.7mm into your hearts and feel the unbreakable love!
