## Description

WINNER: 'BEST ASIAN COOKBOOK' UK IN THE GOURMAND WORLD COOKBOOK AWARDS Bangladesh is a land of contrasts, from busy cities to the lush and fertile countryside, with fish ponds, lakes and rivers at every turn. The cuisine reflects the abundance of vegetables and fish, and has a distinctive taste defined in particular by the ubiquitous mustard oil, and the five-spice blend called panch poran. In this book Saira has brought together her much-loved recipes, with everyday classics, regional specialities, street snacks, and impressive celebration food too. It is packed with background detail and anecdote, vibrant photographs of every dish, and an informative introduction describing the ingredients and cooking techniques of Bangladesh.

Review: Sets the standard for recipe books - I bought this book over 2 years ago and never actually opened it until now. What an amazing compilation of detailed and accurate recipes accompanied by unique story telling. As an owner of innumerable books this really sets the standard for what a cook book should be - super clear instructions, imaginative and authentic photos for EVERY dish, metric and imperial measurements, calorific and nutritional content of each meal, and just so robustly put together good quality hardback. I'm going to check who the publisher is so I can buy more! I then checked the author was a MasterChef finalist and it becomes clear her passion and mastery exudes from every page. Blown away!
Review: Surprising quick and easy, even for inexperienced cooks - This is one of those books you could just sit there and look at for hours. The recipes are fun and easy to make, and very forgiving. I usually tweak them to use whatever I have to hand in the kitchen. The only problem is whenever I cook a curry now, it always has to include everything, the meat curry, the vegetable curry, dhal, salad and rice. But this book covers all these. Cooking a curry at home must be so much healthier, and the nutritional information close to the back of the book is very helpful if you are watching your intake. I have also bought a copy for my nephew for university. This book, together with a microwavable rice cooker, a large bag of rice and one of lentils and a spice selection from the Indian cash and carry, will mean he will need to buy very little else to have a tasty and filling meal.
