Bridgman's Complete Guide to Drawing From Life

this is basically everything you will ever need when it comes to drawing humans. but a fair warning, you need to have some 3D knowledge or at least should know how to draw basic 3D objects when dealing with bridgman. do not just look at the pictures. read the text, observe the curves given in the pictures. his drawings are exaggerated on purpose. so do not just copy, but analyse and you will be good in no time.

Bridgman's is considered a Bible for anatomical studies for artists. It also comes in small individual books on "head", "torso"....etc. This book combines them into a single book. It's more convenient

Before this book, I searched for it in many shops but could not find it. now I have found this book and now I am happy to get it.A very profitable book for emerging artists.

While the letters are clear enough, the images are often not good. Due to the bad printing quality, many are missing important details, or seem jumbled. It might not have been an issue otherwise, but this being an art book used to practice anatomy, the lacking quality of the images makes it very hard to use. At this point, I'm wondering if I should return it or keep using it as is, cause this being so called 'printed in China'(though I don't wanna be biased, the phrase has a terrible reputation), I'm not sure I'll get anything better if I ask for a replacement.

Print pretty much sucks. If you can get your hands over an old print, it would be worth it. The individual books might be better, but even those suck to be honest, but better. Bridgman's students compiled this book after he died, and as the prints went on, a lot of the knowledge and context was lost in the iterations. I just found some e-books of the original prints and that's what I use. Make sure you get the ebooks of the oldest edition you can find!

Good product but price is high others qualify is great

It's great having all of Bridgman's teaching in just one book. I have to admit, the text is at times hard to read, since it's older english, but overall it is an amazing book for you to learn more about gesture and tee contruction of the body.

Any aspiring artist would benefit from dipping in and out of this book , it guides you through the fundamentals of form and structure ,and in so doing so , gives you that essential little kick ,to get over the white fright ,and do some drawing , just draw , and draw ! , and hey if it does not work out for you !! , go back to book and draw some more...... this book covers just about everything ,and is well worth the cost .

Excellent resource, text+pictures have been rearranged in a tidier manner so it's simple to tell which is referring to which (if you've tried to borrow or read older editions of Bridgman, its quite a headache at times). Upon comparison, the text itself appears to be the same, just in different order. It's great value as it's basically a compilation of 7 books in a more 'digestible' order, just that it's quite large and hefty as a result when bringing it around for practice. Don't buy it as an absolute beginner, but it's fantastic when you are further into your art journey.
