Review: Must have teapot for sencha/gyokuro teas. A joy to use. - EDIT 9/26/19: Verified not the best for pouring fukamushi teas (you'll never get it poured guick enough on those 5-10 second brews).. The lid broke when dropped (expected though of any teapot).. Also (sadly, because the pot is so nice) because its larger than 5-6 ounces, I end up using my smaller pots (for green teas, or any tea you brew more than once). ORIGINAL: Very well made, tight tolerance on the lid seems strange but interesting.. FYI, my complaints were small knit-picking; as I’ve never seen the perfect teapot. Strong feeling clay (Not going to drop it to test though).. The clay/ceramic screen is large with small holes, but probably will not work well enough for fukamushi (ashamushi of course works fine).. Although I have noticed different taste using the super fine SS screens versus clay screens, I’m not sure it’s a negative, and somehow pure clay is more of a joy to use.. If I find it’s working for deep steamed tea, I will edit to add later.. For Japanese green tea I favor about 5 ounce (150ml) pot, although this pot is small enough I can fairly easily gauge filling it half way (but then there is a higher ratio of clay to water which affects the heat of the water).. For a wish list, since there is no patina assoc with sencha/gyokuro teas), therefore I wish the inside were glazed to make it easy to remove the tea when done. Another thing on my wish list, is this pot sized about 5 ounces).. $70 for a teapot is a good deal when it’s functional and beautiful (so many pots I have paid for in the past end up not being used).
