Veterinary Formula Clinical Care Antiparasitic & Antiseborrheic Medicated Dog...

Edit to Update 1/2025: I've continued using this shampoo. Sometime between 2018 and 2023, the formula was updated. The shampoo became thinner and paler in the bottle I received. The smell was also less strong. I'm about to order my next bottle so we'll see if it was a batch or a real change. I found the potential reformulation to be a bit less effective than the earlier version but it still helps manage my dermatitis better than any other medicated (human) shampoo I've ever tried. I use it once a week to keep things stable. My hair hasn't fallen out or otherwise suffered over these years of use. ----- Based one a review here, I took a chance to try this on my own scalp. I have had various skin problems my whole life. I've tried, literally, over a dozen (maybe two dozen) shampoos for dandruff/eczema/dermatitis/psoriasis -- including at least two prescriptions. Some of them worked some of the time, at least in part. None of them ever cleared up all my problems, even with prolonged use. You can imagine that I gave up and just went with whatever would keep me from scratching until my scalp bled. My skin problems were so bad, I never considered my scalp as "skin" - it didn't LOOK like skin anywhere else on my body and it was always very, very white (yes, I am pale, but I am not sheet-of-paper white). I have used this product once so far - it arrived Sunday morning, I used it that evening. My scalp looks more like skin than I ever remember it. It looks healthy. There are still some flakes, but that sort of thing doesn't go away overnight; this is, however, the biggest change I've EVER experienced with my skin/scalp. Not even prescription creams helped my dermatitis this fast. I will update this review if something changes. There are still a couple rough spots where I experience scaling, but even those feel lessened. My scalp doesn't itch nearly as much either. After one use! This is crazy. I keep waiting to break out in a rash or something; something that would ruin my experience. But, so far, so good. I probably should have tried their yellow label product instead (anti-inflammatory instead of anti-parasitic), but I am over the moon at what a great job just one use of this shampoo has done for my scalp. I still need to find a conditioner to pair with it, as this stripped away a lot of my hair's oils and made it feel a lil coarse again, but... so worth it!

It’s been 10 days today and the mange is almost gone. I used a combination of DermaPet" Benzoyl Peroxide Plus Shampoo (DermaBenSS); Davis Benzoyl Peroxide Medicated Dog & Cat Shampoo, Veterinary Formula Clinical Care Antiparasitic and Antiseborrheic Medicated Shampoo for Dogs, and Nu-Stock. I’ll outline what I did in a second. Some background: My 10 year old boxer contracted what looked to be demodectic mange. She got bumps on her skin, some large, some smaller. They would start leaking pus, then crust over, and when they scabs came off, she’d have a dark, calloused patch of bald skin. She wasn’t terribly itchy. And she didn’t get stinky. The sores were mostly on her back. Granted, this wasn’t the worst case of mange, by a longshot. She’d recently had two procedures under general anesthesia and I wasn’t keen on the idea of subjecting her toxic dips and other potentially harmful meds, especially given her age. So first I tried the Listerine & baby oil route. Didn’t really help. Then I switched to Borax, hydrogen peroxide and water. That helped a little, but I had to go out of town for a week and couldn’t treat her. When I got back, she looked worse and had more bald patches. She also had a new oozing sore. I read up on Amazon and chose the four products I mentioned earlier: DermaPet" Benzoyl Peroxide Plus Shampoo (DermaBenSS); Davis Benzoyl Peroxide Medicated Dog & Cat Shampoo, Veterinary Formula Clinical Care Antiparasitic and Antiseborrheic Medicated Shampoo for Dogs, and Nu-Stock. First, I washed her as directed with the benzoyl peroxide shampoos. These shampoos are supposed to flush the pores out and clean out the gunk. I used this step to essentially prep her skin for the following two steps. FYI – DermaBenSS lathers up more and has a coconut-y scent, but Davis seems just as good. I used a little of both. I didn’t need a lot of shampoo. Just remember, these shampoos don’t lather up like regular shampoo, so don’t keep putting it on thinking you need more. I think of this stuff more like a benzoyl peroxide face wash. (Those don’t really later up either.) I kept the shampoo on for 10 minutes, massaging the shampoo into her fur (not scrubbing – I didn’t want to hurt her). Then we rinsed. It’s very easy to rinse off if you don’t gob it on. After that, I used the Veterinary Formula Clinical Care Antiparasitic and Antiseborrheic Medicated Shampoo for Dogs. This one lathers up much more. I think the benzoyl peroxide shampoos really allowed this stuff to get in and work its magic. I followed the directions and kept it on for 15 minutes. It smells medicine-y. Again, massaging it into her fur. After that, we rinsed and towel dried, then pup shook and rubbed against the length of the furniture a dozen or so times. After she dried off a bit more, I put out a waterproof blanket and got out the Nu-Stock. I read lots of reviews about the smell so I was expecting something horrible. It’s not perfume, that’s for sure, but it’s really not as bad as I expected. It smells pine-y and medicine-y, with a bit of sulfur in there. It dries chalky and it can be greasy, so be careful of your furniture. That’s why I put the waterproof picnic blanket on my bed. I applied Nu-Stock directly to her new sores and recent scars, but also spread it over her back where there were quite a few recent scabs. I did this by thinning the Nu-Stock with baby oil, and using an old hair dye brush to make sure the solution got in good contact with her skin. The Nu-Stock sticks pretty well, so your pup might look a little odd with the yellow stuff on her coat. Again, I think the benzoyl peroxide shampoo helped prepare her skin so she could get the full benefit of this product. I repeated this process every three days. On the third and fourth washes, I started using a washcloth to make sure every part of her skin was cleaned properly. Again, not scrubbing, just washing gently. All told, she’s been washed and treated with Nu-Stock 4 times. And OH WHAT A DIFFERENCE. 1. No new sores have popped up, for the first time since she contracted this horrible condition 2. The open sores have healed with new pink skin, not the dark, calloused hard skin that usually appeared when scabs fell off 3. Hair is growing back nicely – even on the older scars This treatment actually makes her coat shiny. Today, she actually seemed like she felt better after her bath – she was romping around like a puppy. I am so grateful to these companies for their amazing products. I think using all these products in tandem made for my pup’s quick recovery. I’m never going without these. As long as I have a fur baby, my cupboard will be stocked with these fantastic products!

I started out being a foster mom for a beagle, then I decided she needed to stay with me. Lovely little beagle who had the oiliest skin/coat I have ever come across. I was a vet tech and thought I was reasonably knowledgeable, but life is not a textbook, and is certainly different when you are working with dogs and cats who have been terribly neglected. This dog would become greasy just hours after a thorough bath, had frequent yeast infections in her ears and rashes on her chest and belly. I decided to hit this problem from all areas- diet, bathing, acupuncture, homeopathic treatments, supplements, everything. I have a fused cervical spine and bathing is difficult, so I decided to cover as many areas to hopefully speed her recovery so the bathing would be less frequent, for my sake and hers. When I first started with her, she was on a dry dog food, received at least three baths a week and her bedding HAD to be washed frequently. I changed her over to the Honest Kitchen's Thrive, but have also used Force and Keen, I have her on their herbal supplement Sparkle, fish oils, also Homeopet's Skin and Seborrhea remedy, a probiotic and enzyme product, though is currently just on a probiotic. When I started to run out of DermabenSs shampoo, which I loved, I decided to try a different type of product as I just was not getting the results I wanted. The smell is wonderful and it stripped her coat well, but within 3 days she was oily again. I did more research and opted for a coal tar shampoo. I read the reviews of this product and thought it was something I should try. The price was reasonable. As far a the fragrance goes, for a coal tar shampoo it is not too bad. It could be much worse. It is coal tar after all, it is not going to smell like a bouquet of flowers, but it is certainly better than an oily dog! The lather is nice and I found it to rinse well enough. My dog is a beagle. Possibly with a thick coated dog or one with a longer coat, it would be more difficult, but then those types of coats simply take more work anyway. This seems to do a nice job of exfoliating. Minnie had had a litter of pups in her day and her nipples will get crusted over and this shampoo has done a better job of removing the dead skin than the other products. I can also see that her coat is not oily in three days after a bath now. She can go a week now without a bath. When dealing with a skin issue, I had to remind myself that this problem is not skin deep. But possibly a clue that other areas of her life were not in harmony. That is why I threw practically everything except the kitchen sink at her to give her some relief. I think everything has helped in it's own way. Was there one thing that really tipped the balance? I don't think so, I think it was the collective good that changed things. I so wished I was working with a dog with dry skin as treating this oily condition requires so much work. If anyone else out there is struggling with this problem, here are my recommendations: Feed the best you absolutely can. I am going to go out on a limb and say try using a prepared raw/dehydrated/frozen diet. These dogs need water to help flush away toxins that have built up in their bodies and kibble can make matters worse. I am going to start to switch her over to part THK and Wellness Core for cost reasons. She was the poster child for food allergies and I hoping we have progressed far enough now that she can go on some kibble. If things backslide, I know what worked and will return. Consider supplements wisely. Fatty acids are good in general for reducing inflammation. Probiotics and enyzmes help dogs to make better use of their food and when you are using an expensive product you want them to get as much out of it as possible. Also this helps with battling yeast in the ears. Keep a journal as skin issues take a long time to turn around and you can begin to wonder if you have made any progress. So keep detailed notes and take pictures, too. Good Luck!!

I need to start by saying: I was not paid or in any way compensated for this review. In fact, I would probably pay double what they’re asking just to continue using this product forever. My poor dog has the worst skin conditions. His skin issues are especially bad on his tummy and hind legs. He was a rescue and he had some really ugly looking patches when we got him...We struggled with this probably on and off for the past five years; sometimes his skin issues were so bad that his light pinkish skin would turn black and scaly—peeling, scabbing, and sometimes bleeding from dryness and irritation (very gross looking and scary!!). We completely lost all respect for vets. Four (4!!) different vets had multiple different ~possible~ explanations for what was wrong with him - environmental allergies, food allergies, stress, too many baths, too few baths, genetics— you name it, they diagnosed it... super unhelpful. All of their solutions were as expensive as they were unhelpful. AT LAST, a product that seemingly washed away my pup’s skin issues after ONE use. After two uses, the redness is completely gone, the scaly black patches are gone, scabs are all healing. Oh.. and he hardly sheds anymore! This guy was putting out grocery bags full of hair every day. His hair always felt rough, kind of like hay (which I thought was just a breed thing), and now it’s silky soft. The healed skin is aesthetically pleasing because honestly no one likes a dog who looks like they’ve got some sort of flesh eating infection... but what really does it for me is how much my dog seems so happy and at peace 🥺 he’s not obsessively licking and biting his irritated skin anymore, and he is ALWAYS walking around with his tongue out, which he hasn’t done since he was a tiny puppy (I thought he just grew out of that). Google says dogs are very good at hiding their pain and I think my boy has been suffering for years but finally found relief. After the first wash, when he saw me taking the bottle out of the cupboard he literally started jumping around and wagging his tail because he knows it makes him feel good 😭 Anyway, buy this product. My dog has been resistant to everything (probably like yours) and if this worked for him, I’m sure it will work for most dogs. It smells kind of like the shampoo they use at most hair salons—not amazing but also not bad, and it goes away after a day or two. He smells and feels clean either way. p.s. I still don’t like vets. You don’t even need a prescription for this and once you know this shampoo exists, there’s no reason it shouldn’t be the FIRST thing you think of when a dog has skin issues. also i feel like i made my dog sound ugly—he’s actually the most handsome boy in the whole world he just had some bad patches and they’re all healed now!

Finally found a brand that actually works and I could tell the change and improvement after the second bath. Certainly help my Bulldogs from all the breakage, hot spots and itching. Great relief for them and they smell great.

Over the past several months our 4 yr old cattle dog developed severe itching, and a heavy doggy odor -- nothing we've ever had with him before. Working with the vet, we've addressed possible infestations, we've changed his diet to extremely low allergy foods, but he still suffering at about the same level of itching. Our vet recommended shampooing with Mal a Ket, and we've gone through a bottle of it. Because of his continued itching, I read a lot of reviews and then chose this shampoo to try next. In truth -- the poor dog is still itchy, much to the dismay of the whole family, the vet, and especially the dog. BUT -- I will say that his odor has much improved. With the Mal a Ket, the odor would improve for a day or so, then return... but with this shampoo, it actually seems like there's been a change in his system, and the odor is pretty much gone. That's a huge win, even though we're still trying to figure out the itching. The negative about this shampoo --- it does stink, especially if you smell it in the bottle. But thankfully it only leaves a very slight tarry odor on the dog, and considering the improvement in the overall doggy odor, I'm perfectly happy with that. Another comment -- it does NOT leave the dog's hair shining and glorious, as is indicated in other reviews. It's clean and fine, but actually, is hair was always silky and shiny, even at the worst smell and itch -- so with this shampoo it's actually not as soft and shiny as has always been his normal. That's a negative, along with the fact that it just didn't work on the itching. Positive is that it's easy to use, and rinses out easily -- and works on the staggering doggy odor. All in all, mixed for me. When this bottle runs out I'm going to try something else, hoping it will leave him more silky, with a more pleasing shampoo scent. BUT --- if the doggy odor returns, I'm going straight back to this stuff, no question.

My dog’s skin was horrible last summer. He was itching so bad that he started losing fur and making himself bleed. Had red spots all over his underside. Greasy fur but also dry skin with dandruff. I bought this and now this will be the only product I will ever use on him! I used as directed and it immediately started to slowly show positive results. His skin has not had a bad breakout like that since last summer. I use this for his regular baths and whenever he shows a sign of irritation. The ONLY downfall is that this stuff does not smell that great but the scent last for like 2 days and goes away. I’ll take how amazing this works for my pup over the smell!

I don’t write many reviews but this product exceeded my expectations, so I had to. My mini schitzu had issues with greasy hair and itchy ears and skin since i adopted him 3 years. My vet said that it was due to his diet and allergies but she was wrong. He was constantly scratching his ears and body. He would rub the skin off his chest due to the itch, his ears were always stinky, and he had an itchy flaky patch along his spine down to the base of his tail. Then I found this shampoo and wow. Yes, it works after one wash! After the first wash, the flakes were nearly gone. After the second wash, the irritated skin looked healthy again. I’m going to keep using it every two days and then taper use to as needed. Thanks for making such a great product!!

The best thing about SynergyLabs, for me and my Miniature Schnauzer, is their formulation. Billy Jr. has (like nearly all Schnauzers) Schnauzer Comedo Syndrome. These are little genetic-derived pimples (non-infectious or life-threatening...think, adolescent acne). Oddly enough, they don't have a remedy or cure for it. However, I think the tar inside of SynergyLabs shampoo keeps the syndrome manageable. Previously, I only used to bathe Billy, 1x every 2-3 weeks, as they advise online. That doesn't work for Schnauzers. The Miniature Schnauzer has a double coat'” a wiry topcoat, with a soft undercoat'” that requires frequent brushing, combing, and grooming to look its best. The breed sheds very little. For the show ring, some of the dog's coat is regularly 'stripped' by hand. So, bathing that little is like humans washing their hair 1x per 3-weeks. Yuk! The oil that builds up is the same in Billy Jr. That's why this shampoo, bathed 1-2x per week keeps everything under control. I've tried other shampoos (without the formulation SynLabs has) and it wasn't effective. That's why this is our second purchase. I can't say enough about how happy this Mini' dad is.

I am buying this shampoo for last 2 or 3 years! Really like it! Gives lots of foam, economical in usage, has nice smell as for me (medical).

Okay - after weeks of having itchy dogs and knowing it was mites and trying so many other products mostly because I hate chemicals so I was looking for natural or going by recommendations such as diatomaceous earth - I have learnt from this and what I’ve mainly learnt is never to skimp! (But at the same time you don’t necessarily have to spend the exorbitant fees a Vet will charge you - which in my opinion is just a joke and mostly based around the expense of their pharmaceutical drugs!) Well two of my three dogs had mites - itching and losing hair with scabby skin following (plus bald / thin patches). It was really distressing me to witness this I was at my wits end.  I had loads of really good suggestions and most of my friends thought it was fleas - it wasn’t tho and I would’ve known if it was - I’ve had animals all my life there was just no signs: no flea dirt, nothing and no bites so I went with my gut opinion (mites) I got nexguard from the vets which they said would work and it didn’t do a single thing! (£70 down).. I used a particular herbal shampoo with my dogs and that definitely helped but just a few days later it kicked off again... Dietomaceous Earth seems to soothe but didn’t cure I’m afraid to say and it leaves your room as if you’re living on the moon with a fine white film over absolutely everything which was a bit of a nightmare!! Plus With all the itching they were doing there was hair all over the place as well so I’ve had to really keep on top of things And then even my third dog yo-yo started getting attacked urgh (That’s a photo of him there finally at peace with no itching) I really researched it and this is the Shampoo I now recommend Its definitely stopped the itching dead in its tracks I’m going to use it again, as directed, in a few days time, I’ve also washed everything connected to my dogs at 60° and hoovered thoroughly!  it’s not cheap (£29.99), but it seems to be effective and at the same time doesn’t have dangerous ingredients (although not herbal either) it’s good for parasitic and fungal infections it also promotes healing!   They feel super soft and clean! Smell good too! So good to find this - a few of my pals had had problems which seem to be long-term and this seems to have stopped it dead in its tracks but reading the very positive reviews - no harmful side-effects (or very rare). Surprisingly you don’t always come up with these things when you first search - quite often you have to read through forums to find what is highly recommended (and then you can find them!). Right now all three dogs are asleep on the settee after a nice long walk - with not a sign of an itch I can’t tell you how good this feels!  all I’ve got to do now is wait for their hair to grow back in the little patches that came up! A WINNER!!
