Is it strictly battery or can you get an ac adapter for it?

Battery only. You would not want one that you have to plug in, because if it came unplug with movement before the magnet released it would not go off. I found this particular alarm very helpful from bedtime and chair time.

Has anyone had issues with the sound of this alarm setting off your home security system at night?

I don't have that issue. I can't see why it would unless it magnet alarms goes off and the sound of it may make the home security system go off as well. ????

How easy is this to "put back together" after the alarm goes off? Needing it to remind mother to use her walker....

The magnet is attached to the other end of the string. When the string is pulled, the magnet comes off the alarm part and the sound is then made to make you aware she needs help. All you have to do to make the alarm stop is to put the magnet back over the metal circle on the alarm. The clip part needs to be attached to her or something very close to her, so when she moves or falls, it will go off. I hope this helps. I use mine for my sister so before she gets up out of the chair or bed it goes off. I do place it in a way that she has some room to move naturally without it going off.
