Can I use them on a lantern?

They are a "stand alone" light. so I don't know what you mean by "Can I use them on a lantern". I will tell you I have several clamped to my gutter and they come on a dark and stay lit all night in the summer and most of the night in the winter. Just clamp (tighten the screw) them to your gutter, turn the switch to on. and wait for dark.
