Do you have to plug it in?

yes it does have to be plugged in,but it has a very, very short lead therefore you have to be standing right by the socket in order to use it.I sent it back.hope this helps.

Does it work like a dryer on damp hair?

If not too wet, yes. But I usually towel dry my hair first, then use a hair dryer to get rid of most of the moisture before using the hot brush. It is more of a styling tool than a dryer as such.

I have very fine hair, could the hair get tangled and the brush get stuck in the hair?

Mine is quite fine as well and I have no trouble, there is also a button to press which releases the hair.

what is the diameter of the brush head please?

Difficult to measure diameter accurately as it is a brush! I would estimate the smaller of the two brushes is approximately one inch and the larger approximately one and a half inches.
