Often when you're birding you're trying to get a bead on a small, active bird with your binoculars, so the field of view (the amount of area you see through your binos) is nearly as important if not just as important as the magnification, and typically the higher you go in magnification, the narrower the field of view. The field of view for the 12x50s is 288', and for the 10x50s it's 346'.
