Twenty-four year old Aditya Chopra released his defining film, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (The Brave-Heart Will Take the Bride) on Diwali, 20 October 1995.The film swiftly made box-office gold and created a deep impression on audiences across generations. This timeless romance has now famously played for a thousand consecutive weeks at Maratha Mandir, Mumbai (where it continues to play), making it Indiaโs longest-running film. Produced by Yash Chopra and widely known as "DDLJ", the film brought a new twist to the familiar love story. Raj (Shah Rukh Khan) and Simran (Kajol) fall in love on their travels through Europe and instead of rebelling against an objecting parent, Raj decides to win over Simranโs uncompromising father. In 1996, at the height of the DDLJ craze, the young Aditya Chopra decided to step away from the limelight and despite his ever-increasing power as both producer and studio-owner, he has remained largely unseen and unheard for two decades. People outside his immediate circle know little about him and as a result, he has gained the reputation of being an enigma in a world of celebrities and glamour that thrives on constant visibility. Twenty years after the release of the film, the private and reclusive Aditya Chopra traces the journey that led to the making of his first film - he discusses his influences, shares insights on cinema and provides fascinating detail about how he went about making the movie that changed his life and that has now become part of the lives of audiences across generations. With 136 pages of unknown information and anecdotes about DDLJ in the words of its director, this book is also illustrated with over 150 images. Aditya Chopra relives Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, as told to Nasreen Munni Kabir, is the story of this phenomenally popular film that turned the tide of Hindi cinema in the 1990's and has rightfully earned pride of place among the most successful and acclaimed Indian films of all time. Review: Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1000 Week Celebrations) - There are many interesting anecdotes that are given in his book and I take this opportunity to share some of them here: (a) Whenever Director Aditya Chopra speaks of the movie he calls it as โDilwaleโ and not โDDLJโ. Title being too long with passage of time โDilwale Dulhania Le Jayengeโ became โDDLJโ amongst the masses. Not that Aditya has any objection or gets offended with this but for him itโs like a nickname someone else has given to your child. Itโs just that he has always referred to the film as โDilwaleโ and continues to do so. It was Kirron Kher who suggested the movieโs title. (b) With โDilwaleโ Director Aditya Chopra wanted Raj and Simran to be seen as lovers that many people would always aspire to be. If we observe this romantic movie not even once did Raj or Simran said โI Love Youโ to each other. On the contrary it was pretty evident they both have fallen in love with each other. In the scene where Simran invites Raj for her wedding Shahrukh says, โMain Nahin Aaungaโ (I wonโt come for your wedding). When a girl invites you for her wedding itโs very unlikely a guy would refuse the invitation. It was in fact Rajโs style to convey it to Simran โI Love Youโ hence I wonโt come to be part of your vibrant wedding celebration. (c) The dialogue where we see Shahrukh saying Palat Palat Palat was something Director Aditya admits to have copied the same from Clint Eastwood 1993 thriller titled In the Line of Fire. The shooting for this was scheduled at Kingโs Cross Station in the evening and weather was cold in there in London. So Aditya Chopra who was wearing the brown jacket lent the same to Shahrukh which can be seen in this movie in the โPalatโ scene. (d) The entire screenplay was written in twelve days. The filming of DDLJ took place over sixty-seven non consecutive days. The whole movie was made in a budget of three crore rupees. For many years Dilwale was the most successful Indian film abroad. With the profits earned with Dilwale it allowed the Chopraโs to buy land in Andheri West where the Yash Raj Films studios stand today. (e) The mahurat shot in this movie was Simranโs introduction. While for Amrish Puri (Baldev Singhโs) shop they wanted to do the shoot at Southhall. However, on the day of the shooting there was massive crowd gathered who had come to see the shooting making it impossible to complete the shoot. The scene was later filmed in a petrol pump station shop on some motorway. Not that I have covered all the anecdotes here but I am positive for all the fans of โDilwaleโ reading this Aditya Chopraโs book full of interesting anecdotes would be indeed enlightening. Reading the anecdote and then watching the movie again would be a different experience all together. Come Fall In Love. When Raj met Simran Love Was Never The Same . . . Review: Perfect - Thank you so much for such an Amazing product, desertcart

Absolute Nostalgia
This stunning 136 page book takes us into the mind of the then 23-old Aditya Chopra, whose first epic movie, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge was a complete blockbuster and that has run for twenty continuous years. Aditya Chopra narrates to Nasreen Munni Kabir with absolute clarity, his thoughts, inspiration and the making of this epic tale of love and drama. If you love Shah Rukh and Kajol as much as me, the stunning color photographs both from the movie and behind the scenes are an absolute delight. And there was a deeply poignant thought on feminism on page 66, where Aditya Chopra states, โIf women are allowed to choose, it's because they are allowed to "choose". But who gives us men the right to "bestow" this "choice"? Who are we to give them a sense of identity?โ โ Kudos!

Nice book & and an amazing insight in how movie was made ... One time read. I can't understand one thing what made this book cost Rs. 2000. There is nothing like spending Rs. 2000 in this book. Although it is a nice informative book for ddlj & srk fans
