Did you ever get it to really work? I've tried candies and floss but ave had no luck! Is there a trick to it?

I used regular sugar out of the bag to make the cotton candy . Let the machine pre heat the entire 10 minutes , cut it off. Add exactly the amount in the little scoop . No more , no less. It will take a while, all of a sudden you will see webs of cotton candy, start twirling the cone to catch it, it will go airborne, stick to things, be careful with it, just keep spinning the cone , next time I may place this outside on a sturdy table. My 3 year old grandson loved watching the machine, the metal piece is extremely hot. Keep the kids away from it. Some sugar was on my nearby toaster and on my kitchen back splash. Was not hard to clean up. Was colorless since I used plain old sugar .He loves it! So I do too.

Can you use maple sugar?

Never tried maple sugar, but I wouldn't advise it. Anything that is too sticky will "gum up" in the unit and it's a real pain to scrape it off. I use floss sugar made for this unit. You can purchase it at a Smart & Final store if there is one near you. Much cheaper than anywhere else.

How long does it usually take to heat up?

In directions is says heat it up ten minutes shut off put in flossing sugar and turn back on it wasn't long until web of sugar was coming up

So much fun.

I tried my hardest to come up with anything bad with this product and I just can't. It's awesome! We bought this for my sons birthday party this year (which hasn't happened yet) but of course had to try it out sooner. We LOVE it! We've used both hard candy and the cotton candy floss (sugar) and I have to say that the floss works better. It produces much more candy and it's much fluffier and lighter. That is not to say that the hard candy option is a bad option. It isn't! It's great, tastes wonderful, and gives the illusion that you're eating more than just two tiny pieces of candy! I agree with everyone when they say that you MUST let this warm up for the correct amount of time! It is so important to get the best results and for the life of the machine. The machine will spin out sugar onto the sides of the plastic around the machine and it looks as though it would be hard to get off. I was a little feverish over the potential hard time I would have cleaning this unit but it is a non-issue. Clean up is much easier than it looks and that sugar "stuck" to the sides is very easy to get off. I do have to say I wouldn't trust it to make multiple cones for a large party all in a row. I would definitely let it cool after every 5 or so cones. Maybe more? We are making the cotton candy ahead of time for my sons party. We LOVE this. Also perfect for date night! Pop in a movie and make cotton candy and enjoy eating it together! :)
