There isnt anything innately organic about foam, it’s chemically engineered, but one could say it’s “naturally” flame resistant. I wouldn’t go into it thinking it’s organic by any stretch of the imagination, but it is a nice, attractive cover that does the job well and I’m happy with the purchase. **Q: Can this be left on the hearth when a fire is going?** A: Yes. This foam rubber pad is flame resistant. **Q: Whats the best way to cut? Hot knife tool?** A: To get a clean cut, use a straight edge and a box cutting knife. Make several passes over the foam to cut through foam . Do not try to cut through foam with first pass. Be careful not to compress the foam when cutting, so that you get a straight cut. **Q: will this leave a residue or damage the surface? It's awesome. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Re-designed to fit curved corners *by I***D on January 1, 2022* This 3-piece set was not an exact fit for our hearth, but we couldn't find any other options. Our fireplace hearth is larger than this set can cover so we ended up buying another straight piece to extend coverage. The hearth also has curved corners instead of 90 degree angles. My engineer-brained husband coupled with my DIY creativity figured out how to make this work for us because we desperately needed to provide a safer environment for our granddaughter. In a nutshell, here's what we did to both corner pieces: 1: Make a "pattern" of the curved corner. This was a little tricky for us since our hearth is made of jagged-edged limestone. Just remember to make room for the largest protruding stone. 2: Using a right angle as a guide, detach the edges except for the ends. We used a sharp exact-o knife. 3: Flip the corner piece upside down and cut out your pattern. 3: Reattach the edges to your newly cut curve. We used contact cement which incidentally worked wonderfully. As a side note, we recently needed to remove the hearth cushion to have our chimney cleaned and the entire cushion came off in 1 piece without any signs of it falling apart. A note about the tape included in this purchase: The tape used for the folds of the cushion works well. You simply fold the straight edge of the middle portion and place the double sided tape in between. This does hold the folded edge in place. Now the tape provided for you to attach the cushion to the hearth simply doesn't work. In fairness, our hearth is a bit jagged and it would be asking too much of this type of carpet tape. Fortunately for us, the cushion is too long and heavy for our granddaughter to move it around. This simply stays in place without issue. Lastly, yes our cushion doesn't look like 1 perfectly congruent piece, but we've received compliments from our guests and other parents.
