I use this gas detector for HVAC and plumbing work, especially when entering confined or questionable areas. It monitors the gases I need to watch for, and the audible, visual, and vibration alarms make it hard to miss a warning. The display is easy to read, the unit is straightforward to operate, and the rechargeable battery is convenient. It is a practical piece of safety equipment to keep on the truck.

This is a nice little gas meter. I use meters at work- and am familiar with the professional grade 4 gas meter which this is emulating. This meter is decent. It detects oxygen, H2S, carbon monoxide, and 10% LEL of flammable gases. It is lightweight, rechargeable, and decently priced. I tested the meter by exposing it to car exhaust- it alarmed both visually with lights and audibly with an annoying beep for both CO and low oxygen environment- which would be expected. I also tested it with butane- which did not alarm, but I don't think I had enough concentration to make 10% of LEL. I don't have a source of H2S to test it, as it does not come with a calibration gas cylinder. From what I could test- it functions well. I like that it comes with a clip so that you can wear it on your belt or shirt when working in an environment such as a confined space that may have gas or low oxygen. It also returned to normal quickly when removed from the gas environment. I would not use this type of meter to pinpoint leaks as much as to test the safety of the air in an environment. A meter with a wand would be better for specific leak detection. While this will tell you that there is a presence of methane or propane (or any flammable hydrocarbons) in the area, it may not be specific enough to pinpoint the leak. It serves the purpose of a warning- if this is alerting- you need to be exiting the area to fresh air and calling a professional. Some things I don't like about this detector are the lack of a battery meter- I didn't see any way to know how much charge was left. The instructions were not great- and obviously poorly translated. I attached a photo of one page that actually says that they are purposely NOT including instructions on calibration as that is for professionals? Well as a professional- one still needs instructions to be able to perform calibration on this specific meter. It suggests to calibrate every so often- at least once a year- but with no included calibration gas- and no instructions, I'm not sure how they expect anyone to do that. While calibration gas kits are usually sold separately, there is no mention of which kit specifically this meter uses- or if one exists. There also doesn’t appear to be a way to perform a fresh air calibration (zeroing the sensors), nor any method to perform a bump test to confirm sensor response. Overall, this is a nice safety device for the individual. I do not think it is a professional grade meter like a hazmat team would use- but it is useful in the industrial setting or even at home to monitor the air for the presence of some of the top hazards. Anyone working with potentially dangerous environments should have something like this. Just be aware that without calibration gas or detailed instructions, long-term reliability may be limited. Still, for a quick check or added peace of mind in a potentially hazardous environment, this device is a worthwhile and inexpensive tool.

I have seen many instances where their use has provided critical information that prevented serious incidents. Respect that they are lifesaving tools and follow the manufacturer’s directions. Also understand a few simple guidelines that should be adapted to your particular circumstances: Always turn a gas detector on and allow it to stabilize in an area known to have clean, fresh air - often this is outside. The sensors work by diffusion and can take up to a couple minutes to display the full, correct value. Oxygen is 20.9% of fresh air at sea level. If this is not the reading when stabilized in clean fresh air (when powered on), the reading is not reliable and the instrument should not be used. Since some sensors require oxygen to work, other sensors may not be reliable either. All the other sensors should read zero in clean fresh air. If readings in use are not 20.9% O2, and zero for all other sensors, or if the readings are changing, seek help from a professional who is familiar with the specific conditions of use (e.g. an appliance technician, a health and safety professional, emergency response.) In the case of any alarm, evacuate the space immediately, and warn all others away. Any alarm should be considered a condition that is immediately dangerous to life or health. Works as advertised. Very handy to be able to detect gas leaks. I find the screen easy to read and the device is simple enough to use. Currently priced at £59.99 which I feel is reasonable for the build quality.

This compact gas detector comes in a sturdy zipped pouch. I have purchased quite a few devices – mostly medical – that are straightforward and simple use. This didn’t at first seem to be one of them. However, I realised that it is the instructions that are quite complicated and, to be honest, not very well-written. The basic operation is as simple as pressing the “on” button and waiting for the machine to do its work and go through the routine. This involves a lot of clickings and vibrations, but if there is no gas leak detected the screen will revert to zero. I have not yet found a leak – but the device will continue to click, vibrate and illuminate if “over value” is detected. There is also an alarm setting, which is ideal if you are unsure of the security of a gas fitting. For anyone who has ever said “can you smell gas?”, this machine will be invaluable. Many houses still have gas boilers and gas cookers – often ageing ones. I would recommend this detector for peace of mind. I would also recommend strongly that the manufacturer produces a short video to demonstrate the use of this device. That would have earned the extra star to make it five!
