I think the rubber part that seals to the kid's face gets less pliable--you don't feel it or see cracks, but they start to leak. Until then, they're AWESOME. Seal great, easy to put on without pulling hair, and even a small toddler can quickly and accurately lift them up onto his forehead and put them back in place unassisted and quickly. Even though they eventually lose their magic, they work so well we keep buying more. Having happy, easy kids in the pool, ocean, or river is worth the extra couple bucks. Review: I have a 3.5yo boy with a bigger head than most. The goggles are advertised as 3+yet the velcro straps barely touch. Not something I expected. Maybe a head size in the advertising would benefit more buyers.
