Black Friday: The True Story Of The Bombay Bomb Blasts

I bought this book after watching the Anurag Kashyap directed masterpiece and honest to God, I was hugely and pleasantly surprised. This book is definitely not a literary gem. If you are looking for one, please read William Shakespeare.....but this was so hard-hitting, gritty, and fiesty that it actually overshadows the film by miles. I enjoyed every bit of it and would love to read other works of Mr. Zaidi.

Mr Zaidi accomplishes the rare: converting a historical, controversial and tragic series of events in India’s history into a tightly woven, thrilling at times, gruesome at others, but above all faithful narrative based on documentary evidence and replete with journalistic integrity. Kudos!

Born and brought up in Mumbai, and growing up as a small child through the terrible 92’ Bombay riots and the devastating 93’ blasts, I always wanted to learn more about the city I call home. Through this book, and others by Zaidi sir, I learnt a lot about ‘My City’. They include how Mumbai has a unique culture, how different communities make the city what it is today, how religious madness tried to destroy its fabric, and how in times of distress, the different religions come to each other’s aid without hesitation. Hats off to Zaidi sir. A must-read book (along with Dongri to Dubai, Byculla to Bangkok) for those who truly call Mumbai their home.

This book is a must read for someone who wants a clear picture on the 1993 Bombay blasts. I had seen the movie Black Friday, that is based on this book, long back and multiple times and was wondering if I should read the book also or not. I took the decision of reading it and am more than happy and satisfied about the decision made. There is a lot more information available with regards to the topic that could not be covered in the movie. Commendable efforts by Mr. Zaidi and the others who helped him during the research.

A nice read. If you're born in Mumbai or are interested in how the city is the way it is you should know what happened with us. Why we changed. This book answers many such questions. Zaidi is a master of the genre. His story telling skills keep you hooked till the very end. Enjoyed this read. My best friend's Mom has borrowed this book from me as I write this review. So I guess, it is a good read for all ages :P

Intricate details about the whole episode. Also gives a touch of history in the beginning. I guess, the movie would be better.

Enjoyed the book a lot. Amazing n gripping in all respects. Pakistani involvement very clear. Also realized in many areas Govt job can be so tough. Told my wife also about it.

A superb book on the 1993 bomb blasts. Simple and lucid and contains all the relevant facts and info The book shows how religion is used as a tool to brainwash young naive minds ! The book further goes on to describe how the system is corrupt and shows the political underworld bureaucracy Nexus ! A must read for all crime enthusiasts.

A must read for everyone .... A page turner....Hussain zaidi has packed in everything one could want to know about the dreadful series of events that shook our city ...

Not half as good as earlier Hussain Zaidi books.

Hats off to Hussain Zaidi, it brought back the scenes that I saw in the movie Black Friday when I was way younger and didn't knew that such a book existed or the movie was based on this movie. It sent shivers down my spice imagining the horrors of the blasts..detailed and well researched books or master pieces as his forte!

What's cool is that this well researched book lets you understand the incidents very well. Perhaps the only such book about the tragic incident.
