Tire width might be a problem; it was for me. As others pointed out, this can only handle tires up to a certain width. My 27.5 by 2.25 MAXXIS does not fit well, and my 29.0 by 2.25 MAXXIS also does not fit. My 2.0 tires fit great. My gravel bike (42 width tire) works great too. My family has nine MTB in my our garage so I had a good chance to see what MTB tire works and what does not. The manufacturer advises this item for up to 2.3 tires but my brand new MAXXIS 2.25 will not work. This might be related to the side knob design. Who knows. If it's for decoration, look for a bicycle display stand and fasten one to both the front and back tire and to the top of the bookcase using earthquake straps and fasteners. **Q: can it be used outdoors on a composite deck?** A: Shouldn't be a problem so long as your deck is reasonably leveled because the rakk is pretty stable.
