LaCie 1TB external hard drive...SEXY!!!
This signature designer enclosed external hard drive is the best looking peripheral in my office. Beautiful looking, slick, solid black enclosure with subtle blue light emitted from under the front end, it's also whisper quiet when operating. The small footprint on my desk is very nice too. The generous size of the 1 TB hard drive is accessed by USB2, which I understood when buying it. I connect to the latest Mac laptop, which is lightening fast and flawless in performance. I do find myself wishing for a Firewire 800 connection instead of this LaCie's slower USB2, to keep up with the performance of my laptop. Despite that, I am very pleased with the performance of this drive. I used this LaCie 1TB hard drive to replace my two other lower capacity, sketchy performing external hard drives, with lots of growing room to spare! So far, my new LaCie drive has proven very reliable and has made my work in graphic design and digital photography much more convenient. I am so glad I found this LaCie 1TB external drive. The price was unbelievably low for what I got with this product. I'm impressed!!

Great hard drive for a great price.
I would definitely recommend this hard drive to anyone. It has a sleek look to it - a very glossy, black interface which will reveal all your fingerprints and dust. But that doesn't matter. 750 GB is a lot of space! Everyone should jump on this bargain. Two things I don't like about it are the noise it makes every once in a while (not a big negative for me, but just something to put out there) and the extremely short usb cable it came with. Works great with my Mac, and was very easy to partition so that I could use half for Time Machine and the other half for photos, school work, movies, etc.

Worth The Wait
So the time came when I needed another external hard drive. I had bought a LaCie 4 years ago, at nearly full retail price from the company that made my computer, and have been nothing but pleased. A 160GB small silver drive. It's still running strong. But back then 160GB was a huge amount to me, I never thought I'd need anything more...until now.My search started here and I admit I was taken with the Toshiba 500GB slim hard drive. You know the cute one with the pretty blue design on the top. But after reading so many reviews about how it was more trouble that it was worth I couldn't in good conscience make the purchase. Time was ticking and after sitting on it I searched again and found this drive. LaCie, a brand I trust...check. Already NTFS formatted...check. Easy setup...check. Stylish design...check. Right price for the GB size and I could use my Amazon gift card to pay for half of it....check. So I made the purchase.Only problem was Amazon was temporarily out of stock. I took this as a good sign, people saw a good value when it was put in front of them and I didn't cancel the order. And waited. It took over half a month for me to receive the drive but I love it so far. I thought my first drive was easy to install but a little kid could set this one up. Granted I've got both my external drives on the bottom shelf of my computer desk, next to the tower so its super simple to hook it all up; but I don't understand why people complain about cord lengths and such. If you're not close to outlets you have to have some kind of surge protector/extension cord anyway. The power cord is much longer than the USB cable. But when you've got one that long, it should all work. I don't think companies should need to accommodate the few that think they should be able to use this on their water bed LOLI will be leaving it on 24/7 for several months to make sure it passes the test of being fully functional and secure. To be safe, and I'd recommend this to everyone, I'm still keeping all my irreplaceable files on my trusted 4 year old LaCie and putting everything else on the new one.So far I'd recommend this drive to everyone, especially if you've got Windows. Super simple, super easy, super stylish. If I had the cash I probably would have sprung for one with even more file space.

Confusing
I've had the thing for a month, now. I still don't know how make itwork right or, perhaps, better said, it may be working just fine butI can't tell. Two problems...First problem...very, very, scant written instructions. Less thana page. The only thing it was clear on is that if, somehow, yourcomputer doesn't load the software that's not on a disc but somewherein the machine itself on the first try, you're in trouble. Thenyou have to go to the LaCie website and download it. Which leads toSecond problem...My computer was working just fine so I figured theonly way the software would fail to load is if I did something stupid...and I must admit, I have done some very stupid things withcomputers. So, I followed the instructions and started the downloadand jumped out of my chair so I wouldn't be near the damn thing as itloaded. As one might expect, halfway through the download, for reasons only the gods know, my computer decides that its had enough, flashes an error message so quickly that about the only thing I couldread was that the download had stopped and I would have to restartthe computer and try again. Well, of course I, I'd already readthe part that said if the download stops, for any reason, the software in the machine can't be used again. So, I go to theLaCie website which has many, many downloads. I examine eachof them, read the descriptions, and when I'm done, I have no ideawhich one(s) I need to down load...part of that is because theydidn't seem to mention exactly what program(s) the drive, itself, was supposed to install. So, I downloaded two or three that were described as having arelationship to a machine that maybe was like mine or maybe not.I'll be the first to admit...I am an old man with little aptitudefor computers. Reading the boxed directions and descriptions onthe website may be perfectly clear to someone who is up on thisstuff...but that ain't me.So, the machine works ...sort of. But it works without my consciousdirection and has actually backed up some stuff. I have yet totry customer support, although I may get around to it after awhile...I've just finished a week of dealing with trying to replace a lostcell phone and am in the midst of a 9 month problem with our cabletv (where "customer support" is, truly, just two words with nomeaning. Anyway, the hard drive box is unobstrusive and looks okand it hasn't crashed my computer...yet.s
