Is this the same game as the schmidt skull king? if anyone can explain the difference it would be appreciated.

Hello Van,Schmidt licensed the game from us. In their version they sought to appeal more to the hobby game market with illustrations that are more fantasy oriented. They also made the hierarchy of the cards more complex. In our, original version, the Skull King will always win when played. In the Schmidt version they introduced mermaid cards which, in certain circumstances, can beat the Skull King. Our game seems to have enough complexity for most players, and is a bit more easily understood. We seek to have all ages play the game and prefer it with less confusing elements, but there are some who like the Schmidt version. The game has enough complexity that there are state, regional, and a national tournament held during the year at Game Cons around the US. In our , original version, the models that the illustrations are designed from our the members of our family. I am the Skull King, my wife is represented as the Tigress, and our five adult kids are illustrated as the five pirates. If you have further questions, please don't hesitate to inquire. If you like wizard you will love 'Skull King, the game of Scheming and Skulking.' The fun trick taking 'mechanic' is there, but Skull King has a lot of interesting elements that make it that every hand can be a winning hand, if you bid correctly. Skull King rewards big bids and zero bids, but in all cases you must get your bid to score. Interesting opportunities for bonus points bring engaging emotion to the game. Almost everyone loves the fully engrained pirate theme of the game including a jolly 'Yo Ho Ho' before bidding. Multiple levels of pirate powered cards and cards with extra options make it so that the outcome of every hand is an interesting adventure. Can you play with two players?

Hello, Thank you for writing.

Yes, you can play with two players. the game dynamic and techniques do vary with the number of players. When you play with a small group you have to overbid your hand a bit and when playing with a large group you need to underbid your hand a bit. When playing with just two players this is especially the case. My wife and I play it this way often. The one thing to watch out for with two players is to be careful with a zero bid. If your opponent plays an escape card you will win one trick so zero bids are very risky business.
