An Interestingly unique cookbook for Indian recipes
This book is a window to Indian culture and cuisine. Being a vegetarian and having stayed at Boston for about 1.5years, I can relate to some of the experiences the author has shared. This book is to pick up when you really want to try something new but lack enough interest to actually start with- as recipes here are backed with interesting stories! Happy Reading!!

Treasure - Must Buy.
It's a story about Droolworthy food, memories, family, love, recipes...Loved this Book.I got my Tiffin, Book today. Totally worth it. Great quality, Beautiful illustrations - Pictures. I have already read this on kindle, I went ahead and ordered the paperback for quick reference to the recipes. Must buy. I got it for Rs. 339. I want to start cooking the recipes I have been drooling over. This is a book I will treasure. Its about independence Time days, what kind of food the author had till the present time. It offers a peep into that era. I love stories about food, the backdrop and the recipes.

Tolerant and receptive India
The book has a lucid account of the writer's life which is very interesting. The recipes are good. It illuminates one important factor in India which is assimilation of different cultures and their food habits. Indians have always been receptive to new ideas contrary to general perception. That fact is so relevant to the present culture of intolerance. A good read for all these reasons.

Travel back in time and learn South Indian cooking
I bought this primarily since I am fond of South Indian vegetarian tiffin food items and have been meaning to learn. The book is a beautiful walk done memory lane of the authors life and gives us a glimpse of life around Independence years. Made me revisit lovely childhood too.Have tried Rava Idli which turned out great. Could have been provided with an index of recipes too. Else it is hard to find what you are looking for when you use the book to cook.

What a journey!
I started reading the book expecting a lot of recipes, but what I got was lots and lots of stories, memories from a bygone era, that are so touching, funny and heartwarming. The accompanying photos and the impeccable English in which the book is written... Overall, it was a great experience reading this book, although, fair warning, it is quite long 😊

Brings back memories of South India tea time
This is a lovely book full of recipes and memories from days gone by. Most recipes are deep fried (which is traditional) if you're looking for something healthy. Definitely one I'll re-read for pleasure as well as the recipes.

Good read
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this great collection of tales and recipes, despite not being a creative/adventurous cook myself. I could relate completely to the background of the author and parts of her upbringing (altho way more privileged than mine). She has a humorous vein too that makes her anecdotes very readable. The recipes are very creative and not found in many other books on south indian cooking. I was left with a question tho - the author appears to have migrated to America during the civil rights era. She claims that she and her husband settled in a middle class area in Berkeley, and has nothing but positive stories of her neighbors/american friends and so on. I was left wondering if middle class america was so accepting of brown skinned folk in those days. Not a single encounter of racism or even overt curiosity? Maybe But odd.. And her comments on the late RK Narayan were very interesting. All on all, a fun light read and great if you want to try the recipes.

Excellent book. You can tell the author is a very educated, intelligent, wonderful person. Her daughters are blessed with such a mother. Very interesting life stories, great recipes among them (or inside them, like a threads in a shawl). Book is in excellent condition, too.
