I have a plastic one and it was junk. I pour in boiling water at 200 degrees and in 5 mins it's down to 155 after I stir it quickly a few times because of no extra cap. Plus the plastic takes all the heat. You can feel it outside. False advertisement about double wall insulation. It think it needs to be vacuumed for it to work....so I have heard. Go with stainless steel insulated. **Q: Is the inside of the lid also plastic that therefore comes in contact with the liquid? Any other non-steel component that contacts the liquid?** A: We own both versions of this mug. The steel version is steel everywhere except the plastic top (which does touch the liquid inside) and the plastic, mesh plunger. The all-plastic version of this mug is completely plastic - inside, outside, lid, everything except the steel plunger bar. **Q: Does the plunger press all the way down?** A: No, it doesn't. It stops 1.5 to 2 inches above the bottom of the cup, which is not the way French Press is supposed to work. It's disconcerting, not at all what I expected. **Q: does it use filters? saw image of plastic version, looks like grounds would remain in bottom of cup, under press while drinking?** A: There is a built in filter/screen at the bottom of the plunger (press). Yes, the grounds, tea leaves, or whatever you put in it stay in the bottom of the mug but they don't come back up into the drink. We don't use it for coffee just tea and Crio Bru ( a steeped drink made from ground cocoa beans.) We love the mugs.
