ceramic pie weights
I bought these for my mother. She usually uses dried beans when she makes her pie crust to keep the crust flat, but the last time she used beans some spilled down into the bottom of the oven and burned with black smoke, smelling up the house and causing me a lot of trouble to clean out of the oven for her. She is 89 years old and can't get down low to clean up messes like this so it is up to me. I do not make pies, but I knew I didn't want to go through this again so I looked for something to replace her dried bean method that wouldn't burn if she spilled them. These ceramic pie weights seemed to be perfect. So, I bought her some and she has been using these instead. She says they work good. She hasn't spilled any in the oven yet, but if she does, I will not have a big mess to clean up afterwards.

Perfect!
If you're a baking enthusiast, then these are a must have. I recently purchased two bags of these ceramic pie weights (trust me, one just isn't enough), and used them for the first time less than a week after they arrived. I used them to blind bake a quiche crust and it came out perfectly. I go to culinary school, and we just used rice or beans, and these worked so much better! Not only did they weigh the crust down perfectly to prevent blisters, but I also noticed much even heat distribution throughout the entire crust, including the sides. You will not be disappointed by this purchase.

Mediocre at best
Didnโt work nearly as well as advertised. Didnโt work nearly as well without it

Ceramic pie weights
These are very helpful. I use two packages of these pie weights in order to go up the sides of the pie pastry. Therefore, the sides don't work their way down toward the bottom of the base of the pie while it is pre-baking. If you cut a larger round piece of baking paper to cover the bottom of the pastry first, then add the pie weights on top, you can easily lift out the paper to remove the ceramic balls out, all in one time. A very helpful addition to your kitchen.

Good Quality Pie Weights
This is a pretty good product and it does what it's meant to do. They're PIE WEIGHTS and I use them as such. I honestly don't have much to compare these to, because I bought two sets after reading reviews (you will need 2 bags to fully cover the bottom of one 9-inch pie/tart pan) and these were my first sets of pie weights so I'm not sure what would make them spectacular. However, they hold heat pretty well. I would need to cool them for a good period of time outside before storing them in a quart-sized ziplock bag. The only reason I wouldn't give this product 5 stars is due to the following: - you need to buy 2 - it doesn't come with a reusable case Otherwise, if you need pie weights, get these!

GREAT FOR MAKING PERFECT CRUSTS.
I bought two bags which is more than enough for a deep-dish pie. WARNING--RINSE THEM FIRST IN HOT WATER, SPREAD THEM OUT AND DRY IN A WARM OVEN. ALSO USE A PIECE OF PARCHMENT PAPER UNDER THE PIE WEIGHTS TO PROTECT THE WEIGHTS AND THE CRUST. It works great to trim the parchment into a large circle, then crumple it a little before laying it over the crust and putting on the pie weights. Using parchment one bag of weights would be enough to cover the bottom of a 9" crust with a single layer.

Not the best
Tried these, washed them first, dried them well, but will stick with beans, LOL. Price was good. Made a simple basic pie crust and weights left little dents in the bottom and stuck to the crust once it was cooked. Will use in a pinch.

Nice even heat
I have wanted pie weights for a long time but don't make pies very much to feel like justifying it. I finally took the leap and I am so glad I did. Beans just don't work like ceramic weights do. The heat that the weights take on keeps it even along the bottom. I make a lot of one crust pies because I am horrible at making pretty ones, so I am glad that I have these. I bought two bags as another reviewer suggested and I am glad I did. In my big pie dish it is the perfect amount. One bag would have been too little, so I would rather buy one bigger more expensive bag than two, but since I knew that information, it was fine. Read the directions to have it work as it is supposed to.
