Traditional Chinese Mahjong Set, 144 Easy-to-Read X-Large Tiles, Blue Melamine Texture. Case not inlcuded.

If your Mahjong players are Filipino they are not going to like this set. The tiles just aren't thick enough. The height (top to bottom) is fine. The width (side to side) is fine. The thickness (front to back) is too thin. What I was hoping for is Hong Kong size Mahjong tiles. That's pretty much industry standard for South East and South West Asian Mahjong players. Go to any large city in the USA with a Chinatown and you will see them using Hong Kong Mahjong sets. The tiles on this set are too thin for Filipino players who play a more aggressive style of Mahjong. The tiles in this set fall over too easily because the base isn't wide enough. These are barely usable. They need to be slightly shorter and thicker. I can't understand why it is so hard to find a Hong Kong Mahjong Set online. You can find the Hong Kong size Mahjong set in almost any Asian Market in the USA. Unfortunately, it's usually the standard green back tiles. Please offer a set with a thicker base (but with a nice color selection). This will have to do for now.

PROS:: Fast delivery, well packed. Easy to handle large tiles, great metal storage case that will last a long while. Quality Poker style game chips not "toy" plastic chips included Technically a perfect set.CONS: are minor on esthetics, engraved paint could be more colorful and vibrant as we often associate with Asian decorative arts. Dull darker colors. Unlike your usual vinyl case set up, no lift-out trays included to store the tiles inside the case and for using during play to hold your game chips. Tiles are stacked and store directly into the metal case. However I would keep the metal case over a vinyl one any day as the vinyl case seams eventualy tear out and split from repeated flexing. I have a carved custom wooden case built for my smaller tile set as we play regularly. Will do the same for this one.

The tiles are enormous and heavy and crazy fun to play with, especially for people accustomed to the standar-size tiles. Everyone is laughing as they click and clack them around. The quality of the tiles is above average. The chips and dice and case are below average. The case does not feel like it will last longer than the tiles. That's the only reason to take off a star. For now, it's holding up, and we're really having fun with this!

Extra large, easily read tiles. The engraving is very clear. The colors are vivid. This set has a sturdy metal case because it's a heavy set.The chips that are included are poker style chips.Included is a padded playing mat which subdues the sound of clicking tiles during shuffling.The only drawback for me is that there are no trays for placing the tiles in the case. The trays make it easier to store the tiles after playing. Each of the four players can stack the tiles in a tray for placement in the case. Trays are a convenience but their absence is not a big problem.

I was picky in choosing a mahjong set, but this exceeded my every expectations. The pieces are very nice, heavy and fun to use. This is literally the best mahjong set I could find. I don't like small, light weight, cheap peices and these are the exact opposite. You can tell they'll last a long time. The case, chips and dice are of good quality, too. My order also came with a mahjong playing mat.I can't think of any cons to this set, unless you like small mahjong pieces. The graphics on the flower tiles are pretty simple and not as artistic as some mahjong sets. Otherwise, after weeks of looking endlessly, this is the best set I could find and it exceeded my exspectations by far.

It's a little expensive compare to buying it from China, but you don't want to carry something that huge and heavy all the across Atlantic. This is really good and comprehensive, it can satisfy all types play rule no matter where your Chinese friends are from (different region in China have different rule to play). Have fun!

This set is large. Comes in a nice case and tiles are fit in your palm size! Colors and script are clear and have a nice feel in the hand. See photos with quarter for scale.
